... The AI is hidden on the map by mission design. ...

Any reason why you do this? Anyone not wanting to see the enemy on the f10 map can set this in the options themselves.

Usually I'm all for leaving the level of realism up to the player. However, my campaigns are meant for those who want a bit more realistic experience than a typical instant action or single mission. I think the fog of war in combat is a very important part of this realism. Not knowing whether there are still any enemies around, or being in a melee with 60 planes, then 10 seconds later you find yourself alone in the empty blue. This is how they were meant to be played. Being able to peek on the F10 map ruins it all.

@Tapi, please re-check mission 7. It was supposed to be fixedtoday, but probably it weren't the most up to date files that ED included in the patch (I sent them several versions, after finding more and more new 2.5.6 induced bugs). If it's fixed, it's good, if not, then I'm afraid we'll have to wait for the next update.

Hi Reflected,

Mission 7 looks good. More info see spoiler:

Warning to other pilots: attached images are spoiler too, so do not see them :-)

Enemy climbed to 10 000 ft and circle there until we are in range. Then heading towards us and climbing. My fault: I did not spot them until my teammate called they are at 4 o'clock...

Thanks for the report, Tapi. Much appreciated. It looks like the version included in the patch is not the latest one I sent them. Because:

First I just changed their orbit altitude to 10k feet, so that they can climb up to 17k more easily. (this is the version you played.) But then I found out that they completely ignore the altitude setting, and fly level at 10k. (like on your screenshots. So that's when I said sc*w it, and I changed them to spawn airborne and circle at 17k feet, so they only have to fly level towards the player. Less elegant, more bullet proof.

Missions 8-14 should be OK though!

Finished the campaign. It was nice but the last two Normandy missions were a bit boring without the usual channel cross chatter and radio. Dunno if I miss any triggers or just no radio comms or broadcasts. Well, I cannot imagine how could be an 8 hour Berlin trip in radio silence...

Aside from the random FPS issues in big bomber escort missions the missions run flawlesly.

The "Ardennes" map change was a surprise since I recognized the airfield in the briefing and I was like "That doesn't look like a Normandy airfield"

Looking forward to play more mustang campaings if you ever decide to do one for the channel map (wink wing, nudge nudge)

Hi,

Thanks a lot for the feedback. What you mentioned about the radio silence is probably the most difficult task of a WW2 mission maker.

Even though these missions are much shorter than in real life, they are supposed to be flown in silence, but that can be boring. However, you can't make them chit chat all the way, because that would be very unrealistic and an immersion killer. So what do you do? I inserted a few conversations and radio broadcasts, but I tried to keep it low.

For my new P-47 campaign (Channel map) I've found some real radio transcripts, so I have a better idea what the pilots did talk about when they had to. I'll also implement something new: one of the radio channels will be dedicated to the BBC Home Service. So it will be up to the player if and when he wants to be entertained. I think it will be a good compromise.

To find the perfect balance between entertaining and realism is hard. In real missions the adrenaline rush and concentration while you manage everything and scan everything around you surely kept you focused.

The special channel for BBC Home Service is a nice idea. I like that.

In my experience, the more you "suffer" before combat, that is, start up, warm up, taxi, take off, reform, head out etc...the more you have to lose (=the time you invested to get there), so the more you will fear virtual death. If you can just restart in the air 5 miles from the enemy, head on, then you don't care. You have nothing to lose. At least this is my experience.

Most of the chatter that broke the radio silence was calls about engine or fuel problems, or trying to find each other. This is how it will be in my new campaign too.

Hi there !

I'm clearly doing it wrong. But I do not understand how/when. I'm in mission 3, when all 12 mustangs starts to climb; all the other groups are flying faster than me and climb faster (I set 46/2700). I'm starting the climb at 250mph and the speed drops as I'm climbing (less than 150 at the end) and finally I cannot get to engage the supercompressor... I'm climbing emptying the tank fuselage as  it is logic to lower it. Regarding the trim, the elevator one is positive but still close to 0.

When the B17 pops the other groups are 9nm ahead and I"m stuck at angel 14.

I've tried it several times, focusing on keeping the speed around 160mph but then at the end I stop climbing. Unlucky for me on youtube all creators cuts the climb so I cannot spy on their technics. I do not know if it is the right place to post this but I love flying the P51 and the mission is really immersive (I've read "Le grand cirque" several times and it reminds me old memories).

If someone here reads this post and can give me some hints I will deeply appreciate.

Many thanks

Firouze

PS Reflected if you read this, many thanks for the contents you create on WWII !

@Firouze when you climb you set the airspeed with the elevator.  Set it to 160mph. Then you set the climb rate with the throttle. Don’t point your nose at your flight.

at first apply 3000rpm and max boost, until you stabilize and catch up. Then around 52” and 2850rpm will be enough to keep up, sometimes less.

as long as you keep the ball centered 😉

as for the compressor, make sure it’s set to auto. And also that your mixture is in auto rich / run, not all the way forward in emergency rich.

Coup de blues: I tried to dig out my old BOB, Charnwood....etc campaigns, but I couldn't! These "products" are now dedicated to a very well-informed clientele with an "Anglo-Saxon professional pilot" profile. In these so-called "immersive" campaigns, where computer adaptation and its many bugs already complicate the process, adding to the language barrier the latest difficulties in navigating (F10) and without a radio has become for me more a source of stress than pleasure. Too bad, I wouldn't recommend this kind of product for beginners. DCS is, however, a software dedicated to "entertainment".

No, it’s not a beginer campaign, never was. Nor was entertainment ever its purpose. It’s a virtual history lesson.

btw you can still navigate using the kneeboard marker function.

also, you come here to say it has many bugs, when I keep my campaigns bug free after every update. BNBOB has zero bugs to my knowledge. If you found one, let me know so I can fix it. With details, screenshots and preferably a track.

Thank you for confirming that BNBOB is a campaign aimed at a class of pilot that is, let's say, experienced. About the bugs on the campaign, I won't be able to answer as I'm only a beginner who only completed the first mission with difficulties (no F10 card and no radio). May be later?

Just wanted to drop here to give a note of thanks!  Refelcted, your campaigns are masterpieces with the perfect balance of action, skill, leisure time just flying and "preparing" for what's ahead.  Of course, if the pilot spends 15 minutes crossing the Channel, and, when faced with the enemy, dives from 18.000 feet to 2.000 feet expecting compression not to kick in and die a miserable death, it's not the designers fault! 🙂

Honestly, I have flown a lot of your missions, but today I tried mission 7 or 8 from BNBOF for the first time in VR!  It was a blast.  I enjoyed it immensely, and I scored 120 points of enemy planes downed, which is a first for me, so I'm extra happy.  Not so much with my subpar landing, but a 100 score to finish it is a true gift to inaugurate the new VR headset.

Again, just wanted to drop a line of thanks! Looking forward to the new campaigns in the upcoming map.  Best regards,

Rafa.

Hey Rafa, thanks so much for the support. Yes, VR can make a big difference, I only just recently tried BNBOB in VR after 4-5 years, and it was like a dream come true.

Reflected

I am currently playing through the campaign. Great job on the missions.
One issue is I can’t get my radio to work.
I have easy coms on and it does nothing once in the air.

Thanks

I will disable easy coms and see how it goes. I do have the push to talk mapped to a button on my throttle, will that enable me to talk to my flight or are we basically without coms during the missions. Just trying to figure out how to tell the AI to engage, RTB, and communicate with the tower at Chailey on the way back. Sorry if these are stupid questions but this is my first time playing a campaign like this.
Again also want to say I am loving the BNBOD campaign so far and appreciate the support!

Yes the actual radio button will enable you to open the menu in flight. Ise the built in menu to manage your flight and the F10 menu to manage the others (when available)

ATC won’t work toght now because Ugra changed the airfield frequencies and the fix I submitted hasn’t made it to release just yet, but in ww2 they didn’t talk much to tower anyways.

Completed the campaign last night.
was a blast and really enjoyed the last mission. Got 3 kills A to A kills on that mission for a total of 18, and 11 A to G kills throughout the campaign.

Will be purchasing Debden Eagles next.
Great job Reflected!!!
