ALl of the threads about Hardware requirements are REALLY vague about if it is possible/what is required to run DCS at 1440p

And by run I mean actual scenarios/campaign missions/MP Missions rather than "demo" missions scaled for good performance...

What Hardware do I need to be scoping out to run "busy" missions at high-detail in 1440p...

Not so interested in average FPS as Frame Times are more important - I could "live with" 60FPS as long as there are NONE of those horrid micro-stutters that exist (Presumably when a Frame Time creeps above s 15ms)

My current system throws them up at 1080p (so i've parked DCS awaiting a new build)...so what does my new build need to ELIMINATE that at 1440p (I'd specced up a 9700K/2080 OC) but will the the c$400 dollars extra for a 2080Ti make a difference...or is that level of performance unrealistic anyway and should I wait on ANOTHER hardware generation before coming back to DCS...

I run on max setting (High shadows-->Flat or default ) and force DCS to sit on 60 fps (autoexec.cfg -->options.graphics.maxfps = 60), it smooths out Trackir. I can hold this fairly good all the time sp and mp with only minor drops here and there and that's with 16gb ram.

That's also running

ssaa 1.5

msaa x2

It looks great if you can hold these!

That's with no GPU overclock and at only 4.8GHz

If I want more, drop the msaa x2 or start pushing with overclocks GPU/CPU

@1440P without SSAA you're likely to run into a cpu bottleneck with a 2080 for the time being with DCS being DX11. But you'd probably be able to run SSAA 1.5 which ups the pixel count to 4k.

As far as microstutters, you flying in clear skies when you're seeing them? Or is this in multiplayer somewhere? Hard to say what a new cpu/gpu would do for you without knowing your current build.

Certain weather settings cause stutters even on my rig, where others run smooth as butter. And certain MP servers can sometimes have their own issues. So be careful throwing money at problems unless you already know you want this fancy new build Which in my case, I did. :)

I do know this bottleneck, it still happens at 5.2G with a heavily oc'ed 1080ti. Brute force is no cure but patience and Vulkan and for the time being, as Headwarp said, kick in some extra LOD to kill the GPU ;)

:) Thanks for the feedback guys...probably about what I thought...will run smoothly most of the time...but some weather/some missions will still cause it to flag occasionally...

You need every single MHz and Shader to run 1440p at high/highest LOD with current cards.

I really really ask myself what you have to do to run 4k when 1440p already taxes the GPU at that LOD level over its capabilities at some spots....a 4080 VTX-ti by Amtel maybe :)

I can't seem to find where to input this. Can you give me advise on where to find that please?

actually, the best place to put that in is NOT in that file, which likely has to be created too.

The least lag/input delay by throttling to 60fps you can have is when you use MSI Afterburner software to do that. It comes with Riva Tuner, which is the software where you can dial in "60" and lock it there.

I have I7-6700k oc'd to 4.6 with a 1080ti oc'd to 2.0 and run at 3440x1440 with max settings and 4x MSAA. It's vague because hardware combinations vary and we're not a human test bench.

Common sense says it is going to require top of the line relatively modern equipment. Anything below a 6700 or Ryzen with at least a 1070 is not even worth bothering with if you're aiming for 1440 or 4k. That is quite easily determined here.
