How to create light panel without CNC/laser printer?

Hi,

I would like to create a light panel for the F18C, but I don't have a CNC or z laser printer to make that :

I just have a 3D print, so I don't know the best way to make this thing.

Print a "full" (without transparent text) black page on a A4 tracing paper? $$$

Need some help, thanks a lot!

I can't remember who did it, but someone here printed the labels on a laser transparent labels. Black filled, with "transparent" letter. He stacked up 3 or 4 in a row to block the backlight. If you search this forum with some choice key words, you should be able to find it.

Beautiful gauge faces without CNC.

Another alternative is you could take up screen printing. You'd need a really fine screen, but it works and isn't super expensive to get started with.

I started using one to make white on clear decals for models. making nice opaque black with clear letters should only take a short time to get good. And with emulsion you just spray out the open sections so no annoying weeding of vinyl. You usually only have to do two layers of ink or laser jet to make a clean emulsion stencil.

Also check locally if there's a maker space or maker co-op that has a CNC or laser cutter/engraver. That will give you the best look and clear Acrylic sheet and enamel paint are cheap. I got lucky my local Library got a laser cutter for their open maker lab.

I use a dremel “drill press” with a 0.6 mm rotary bit.

After printing the list of words (double-spaced) and cutting them out, I use rubber cement to secure ONE in proper position + alignment. With one hand I lower the press to almost contact, with the other hand I manuever the light panel *carefully*, making about 3 passes per letter.

After doing each word, I peel off the remains of the paper and wash off the rubber cement. Dry, check for proper light penetration and then go to the next word.

It’s not always laser-perfect, but it works for me.
