So I want to bomb a runway down the center line. So I load my trusty Harrier up with 14 Snake-Eyes and a TPOD and get everything set up perfectly. TPOD is targeting the threshold of the runway on the side of my approach, and I line up over 10nm out to insure I have enough time to get CCRP aligned. I'm flying at about 3000 feet and 450 kts and turn AFC on. ACP is QTY 14, MULT 1, INTV 5 (50 feet). That should give me a line of impacts about 700 feet long.

AT about 5 seconds out I pickle and at 0 hear the ripple of releases, then F2 and turn around to watch the bombs slam into the runway one after the other in quick succession... only instead of a nice straight line of bomb impacts down the center line of the runway, the pattern is circular with one side of the radius about on the initial target point... ... what?!

What am I doing wrong here?

Was it windy?

Like, paint peeling off the plane kinda windy? :P

Sounds bizarre though, itching for a screenshot.

That's a very short runway. Are you sure you don't mean 7000' and 500' spacing.

So do they actually ripple off the racks or go all at once?

I was working on it. This 'game' is really kicking my a**. I got everything lined up, and at bomb release I had messed up the ACP somehow and everything reset, and only 1 bomb dropped bomb

So I bailed out and respawned to try again. Everything was perfect, ACP double checked 14/1/5(0), line up on the runway - perfect - start filming, bomb release - *brrrrrap* all 14 away - F2 to watch them gliding down - damn they fall slow - , and there it is; circular cluster on the threshold -- teeny-tiney that it is amost not visible on the video.

Well, I had saved the track. I'll play it back without VR and get a good 1920x1080 video and LCtrl-F11 after dropping the bombs to be still over the runway to watch the bombs explode.

Everything the same as above -- hey, it's a track, it ought to be, right? -- start filming, just before bomb release F2 out and watch from the front. This is going to be good, watching all those bombs ripple off... any second... any... I'm over the runway, why are they not dropping?

WTF?! :( In the track the bombs don't drop!! WTF?!?!

Okay, I've had enough for one day. Spent about 2+ hours trying to get this thing documented well, and only getting screwed by the software :wallbash:

Tomorrow's another day. I'll try to get it documented correctly then *sigh*

I think you have an ordinance issue more than pilot error.

SnakeEyes are very affective released at 200 to 500 feet with 500(ish) TAS and using CCIP. Relaease INT. is on point too.

I think if you use MK-82's instead you'll have better results. I'm curious if ARBS does wind assist in CCRP.

Arbs should kick in with wind correction past a certaind dive angle. 20 deg iirc. Otherwise ot uses ins computed wind drift for ccrp.

This is my result using your parameters.

So what else were you expecting when dropping retards from this height?

Try 300' height above runway and 500' spacing for a runway, or use slicks.

(Zero wind & weather).

CCIP requires a dive angle of a minimum of 25°. I'm not sure what ARBS will do if you are outside that envelope. I think is simply never fills out the target cross, so you can just as well wing it.

Yes, 25°.

Yup. I've been doing testing for many years (I've even got my name on one product packaging, albeit my forum-name). Non-reproducible bugs are anecdotes, and not much use.

I've learned over the years, that if the testing becomes a chore, it's time to take a break, and not burn myself out.

I was expecting all hits to be pretty close to the runway center line -- at least on the runway -- and the impacts to build a fairly straight line -- kind of.

What are the wind conditions? Even with retarded bombs I would expect a tighter grouping.

Wind is in the flight direction pretty much, just fast enough that ATC changes the runway from '07' to '25'.

If I recall the last time I rippled a metric shitton of SnakeEyes in the Skyhawk, I had a pretty tight line. I've always noticed the Harrier and Hornet seem to eject SnakeEyes slightly outward laterally.

Well, to some extent, that's exactly what a TER (Triple Ejector Rack) does, or can do: Wikipedia: Hardpoint TER-9/A (TRIPLE EJECTOR RACK)

But how much impulse the TER instills on the bomb is the question, of if it can be programmed to simply drop the munition without applying an impulse. It would certainly not be good if your bomb were ejecting off your flight line while trying to hit a target, especially if the direction of ejection depends on the load point of the munition.

External view doesn't work in CCRP. (the bombs don't drop).

Watch Pickle from the cockpit, then jump outside, F2 or F6, to see the bomb drop, or use CCIP.

They start to juggle and spread sideways. At this point some of them have moved from left to right and vv, until eventually they drift down like Dandelion seeds at low speed.

This also occurs in the Mig 21 and L-39 and has done for years.

Dude, it's a track replay. It shouldn't have to pickle it again, and the bombs should drop whether my view is form the cockpit or from free-camera

It should do it, but it doesn't. So either use this work round or go without an outside view. (I've re-worded it, to save confusion)

(Watch Pickle from the cockpit, then jump outside, F2 or F6, to see the bomb drop, or use CCIP).

Bombs dropped at 400' or below at 500' interval cover the runway nicely.
