Force_Feedback Posted August 2, 2007 Posted August 2, 2007 Or some ACMI antenna, as there is an ACMI probe over there. See if anyone knows what those blue things are on the F-18 agressor wingtips. Shown at 00:32. Maybe some long wave antenna? Point is, it looks strange. Creedence Clearwater Revival:worthy:
Specter1075 Posted August 2, 2007 Posted August 2, 2007 Thats the damndest thing Ive ever seen. I, in my humblest of opinions, really think that has to be a photoshoped photo. I cant think of any reason to have winglets like that, and they certainly dont look like antennae, or sensors of any kind.
EvilBivol-1 Posted August 2, 2007 Posted August 2, 2007 Umm - an illusion? Isn't it just the leading edge painted over with grey/blue? - EB [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Nothing is easy. Everything takes much longer. The Parable of Jane's A-10 Forum Rules
Rhino104 Posted August 2, 2007 Posted August 2, 2007 Umm - an illusion? Isn't it just the leading edge painted over with grey/blue? Correct. I believe the intent is to make them look like something they arent...
Merc Posted August 2, 2007 Posted August 2, 2007 Rhino is right. It is to make them look like something else. It's simply an aggressor scheme (with gray leading edges). http://users.skynet.be/exotic.planes/pictures/schemes/don-color/f18/f18brown.jpg I don't know which plane they emulate however. - Nachtwolf
D-Scythe Posted August 2, 2007 Posted August 2, 2007 Yeah, I don't see anything out of the ordinary. Rhino is right. It is to make them look like something else. MiG-21s, I think, cause if the blue is supposed to be sky, than those are delta-shaped wings.
Poopskadoop Posted August 2, 2007 Posted August 2, 2007 Yeah, clearly part of the paint scheme. Otherwise, those would have to be the strangest looking winglets I've ever seen, perfectly triangular, pointy, and much too large to seem practical. I like the delta wing illusion.

It's simply an aggressor scheme of "Ruskies". For long time their home airbase was KeyWest, FL. Then if I recall correctly they were rebased to Fallon, NV (?). On the different occasions they wear different signs depending on the conflict project (North Korea, Iraq, Russia, etc.). Those skins You see on YouTube clip are pretending MiG-29 Fulcrum aggressor.
Pilotasso Posted August 2, 2007 Posted August 2, 2007 I've seen this before, its the leading edges of the wings that are painted blue. Nothing more. You can see it clearly at 1:07 mins .

Shown at 00:32. Maybe some long wave antenna? Point is, it looks strange. It's just the camo scheme to make them look like either Mig-29 or su-27... the same thing applies also to the top of the fins, they are painted to look like the russian ones... and also notice the fake air inlets on the top of the LERX (leading edge root extension)... they're just like the ones on the Fulcrum... notice that it happens with many aggressor aircraft, also on the tomcat there was a similar scheme: the white paint on the edges is just to shape the aircraft like a Flanker I once made a skin for lomac: http://forum.lockon.ru/showthread.php?t=10939
Force_Feedback Posted August 2, 2007 Author Posted August 2, 2007 Ook the wonders of low quality and trick photography, the two Thunderbirds F-16 flying 'tail to tail' comes to mind. D'oh Creedence Clearwater Revival:worthy:
EscCtrl Posted August 2, 2007 Posted August 2, 2007 Heh I never thought that kind of paint scheme could trick anyone, well it fooled you! Obviously I never looked and thought those were winglets either ¬_¬
