Honestly I think eye-tracking foveated rendering is gonna be a while. Your eyes move really fast relative to head motion, so your frame times will have to really really fast, as will the tracking. So I'm not holding my breath on it unless someone delivers a good hardware solution for VR draw calls. Fixed foveated, maybe.

I am excited about captoglove as good immersive interaction tool, but thus far its not working in DCS yet.

New hotness: I7 9700k 4.8ghz, 32gb ddr4, 2080ti, :joystick: TM Warthog. TrackIR, HP Reverb (formermly CV1)

Old-N-busted: i7 4720HQ ~3.5GHZ, +32GB DDR3 + Nvidia GTX980m (4GB VRAM) :joystick: TM Warthog. TrackIR, Rift CV1 (yes really).

Well, I just returned the Rift. The immersion was great yes, but I couldn't get over the lack of resolution and especially, the SDE. Felt like my eyes were straining all the time. The fov was also far too limited, like watching through diving glasses.

Performance was good, smooth. 2080 and 9700 running at 5ghz. I guess the Pimax would be the ideal HMD, but that would mean buying the 208ti and still not getting optimal frame rates.

So for now it's back to a 2d, g-sync monitor. Hopefully in a year or two we'll see better headsets, more optimization on ED's part and a new nvidia 3080 card.

It is amazing how different folks are affected by different things.

I hardly notice the SDE at all, guess I am so used to looking out beyond it I just look past it and really do not think about it.

Resolution does not really bother me bad either - but then I only play single player. But yeah I do very much look forward to better resolution (that can run at acceptable performance) down the road.

Maybe Rift succesor the next week ...

Don't expect increased FOV, but more resolution and less SDE is very probable.

There is virtually zero support for VR from AAA games publishers. Hardware designers (Oculus, HTC and others like Samsung) aim at completely different market, standalone, low quality, but easily accessible headsets.

We will have to wait a good couple of years (5+) for VR in DCS to not to be unreadable blur. Having said that, ff you have money to burn, by all means get Rift ( i did, no regrets), it's really good fun, but doesn't replace high res 2D monitor.

Agree with the following posts here. I've been playing VR for a couple of years now almost exclusively. I've done pancake mode (Track IR) a handful of times just to mess around with a new jet and keyboard commands, but it's hard. I'm a RL helicopter pilot, and trying to fly a helo on a 2d screen is significantly more difficult. VR brings spacial awareness a lot closer to what you need in real life for rotor wing. It is expensive to get into, but as a professional pilot who likes the flight sim hobby, it was worth it. Also, get voice attack. Makes using a keyboard way easier.

I'm really looking forward to next week. I'm comfortable with the way Fbook is going because I believe they do have to build the customer base before a Gen2 product. As much as I'd love to have a top of the line, close to enterprise level product, it's not going to happen unless they see a profit out of it. Plus, the % of people willing to go spend a small fortune to run higher gen products is even smaller. I'm hoping consumer base grows with quest/rift S so supply and demand kicks in to produce more/cheaper in the years coming.
