E55-EF Posted March 7, 2019 Posted March 7, 2019 Hello Forum I have acquired a DK2 and wanted to experience and evaluate the DCS/KA50 with it before building my Simpit with lcd,s or the DK2, but i am unable to get the image onto the Rift heres the story so far. Windows 7 64bit 2 x Gtx 680 Gpus 3 monitor+Rift DCS World with VR and headset detection enabled (not steam version) 1)Plugged in and Win 7 picks up the DK and i see windows logo, i am able to rotate and correct the view as Nvidia control Gui displays the rifts panel. 2)Install Oculus 0.8 runtimes and run the demo program all works ok, but rift does not appear in the Nvidia setup gui. 3)Install Steam VR test run the software, room setup all works ok. 4)Start SteamVR and DCS World, my main monitor now displays a split screen/double image which i assume is what i should be seeing in the DK2, which is now just a blank pale grey screen. If i disable the Oculus runtimes then Steam VR does,nt detect the DK2, but the display then reappears in the Nvidia Gui. Any assistance is appreciated. Thanks in advance E55-EF
Svsmokey Posted March 7, 2019 Posted March 7, 2019 Sorry to say you are utterly wasting your time . 680 is nowhere near enough gpu to run VR . Oculus recommends 970 minimum . And if you're thinking 2 680's , DCS does not run SLI . It's a shame because VR is a wonderful experience , but it does require lots of cpu and gpu horsepower . My own system , listed below , is very low-end for VR . E55-EF Posted March 7, 2019 Author Posted March 7, 2019 (edited) Hi I have run a Oc/Vr demo program and surprisingly it ran flawlessly, but i do understand that DCS will be pushing the resources a lot lot harder and iam not expecting any real playability its more a case of getting a feel for the depth more than anything and helping me make a decision to go VR or a Multi Monitor Setup. Thanks for your comment and the welcome. E55-EF Edited March 7, 2019 by E55-EF More Info
E55-EF Posted March 7, 2019 Author Posted March 7, 2019 Update i plugged in the camera and the DK2 burst into life with the DCS splash screen offset to the left hand side and with childlike haste i selected a quick mission, pressed F1for the cockpit veiw and i am currently sat on top of my KA50 watching the landscape go by lol. Im astounded at the sense of immersion to such extent my tummy turned over and i grabbed the chair when i cleared a cliff top edge :-) This is magical i think im going to like this VR How do i center the image and how to get the cockpit view ? ricktoberfest Posted March 7, 2019 Posted March 7, 2019 What kind of performance are you getting. I’ve been holding off on VR until my next graphics card as I run a GTX770 and I assumed it wouldn’t even load with less than a 970 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Svsmokey Posted March 7, 2019 Posted March 7, 2019 Numerpad 5 to center image . Once adjusted to your liking , "save cockpit angles" will open the aircraft with correct view . 9700k @ stock , Aorus Pro Z390 wifi , 32gb 3200 mhz CL16 , 1tb EVO 970 , MSI RX 6800XT Gaming X TRIO , Seasonic Prime 850w Gold , Coolermaster H500m , Noctua NH-D15S , CH Pro throttle and T50CM2/WarBrD base on Foxxmounts , CH pedals , Reverb G2v2
E55-EF Posted March 7, 2019 Author Posted March 7, 2019 Thanks SVS, pressing 5 also gets me into the cockpit instead of riding on top of it lol Performance is what youd expect 26fps but surprisingly fluent display/graphics but certainly not playable on or off line as im getting a fairy light effect with the instruments and focus is very poor. BaD CrC Posted March 7, 2019 Posted March 7, 2019 E55-EF, keep in mind too that flying the Ka50 in VR is not always easy as the displays like Abris or Shkval are very difficult to read unless you are getting close to them (but then you don't watch outside anymore). Also, there are a bunch of switches and rotaries in the ka50 that will not be easy to use in VR. Yes, the immersion of VR is mind blowing, but for the combat intensive missions that the Ka50 is supposed to fly, I would not dismiss a real cockpit for VR. On the other hand, flying the UH-1H in VR is totally awesome. https://www.blacksharkden.com http://discord.gg/blacksharkden

E55-EF Well it is a DK2. Rift CV1 would be better, but you ain't gonna run it with a 680 GPU ( 2 does nothing for VR). You need a fairly high performing CPU and GPU to get a good experience in VR with DCS. But yes the immersion is absolutely incredible, nothing quite like it. E55-EF Posted March 8, 2019 Author Posted March 8, 2019 (edited) Thanks for all the input i agree with Bad and have made the decision to stick with the multimonitor setup with an additional touch screen for the instrument panel, im a noob but love the whirlybirds and practise most days. The DK2 and i presume other VR headsets are,nt OTG friendly that and the poor graphics + the cost to upgrade gpu/cpu as put an end to my VR gaming foray for now. As for the 680,s yes i never expected a fantastic result with the display, just wanted a low cost peek at VR but they are more than capable with Lcds etc. E55-EF Edited March 8, 2019 by E55-EF spelling mistake
