Crimson_Ghost138 Posted March 12, 2019 Posted March 12, 2019 Hi guys! I experienced some weird performance troubles in VR... on Caucasus and Nevada, most of the time my Frames are very good, but when i go to Persian Gulf, i can see in my performance Tools, that even when my CPU and my GPU is not maxed out, my RAM is totally on its limit! It didnt happen in Caucasus or in Nevada, only Persian Gulf. So, my question: Do you experience this as well? Is this "normal" for Persian Gulf to be that hungry? Any way to get the RAM usage a little bit down in Persian Gulf?? I am planning to upgrade my system to a new i5 9600k with DDR4 16GB, but maybe i need to plan for 32GB?! Btw, my specs now (i know, my CPU is quite old, but as my performance tools show, i cant see that it is the limiting fact for now, or am i seeing this wrong?) i5 2500k OC @ 4,5Ghz stable 16GB RAM DDR3 Corsair Vengeance DCS is on SSD GTX1080 See my screenshot:
Ramsay Posted March 12, 2019 Posted March 12, 2019 Persian Gulf performance has been fair (better than expected) but I've only really flown the F/A-18, Yak-52 and Mi-8 in light test missions. The only issue I have to date is the NS430, as it's moving map introduces micro stutter and the terrain map causes huge lag spikes (due to SSD/HDD access of page file, PersianGulf.surface5 and .sst files). The large lag spikes make that mode of the NS430 unusable in the Persian Gulf. The Persian Gulf .surface5 file size is 16GB compared to 6GB in other maps, so I suspect that may be the reason - I looked to see if I could reduce the terrain mesh but the setting is probably in a protected file or the files proprietary. YMMV i9 9900K @4.8GHz, 64GB DDR4, RTX4070 12GB, 1+2TB NVMe, 6+4TB HD, 4+1TB SSD, Winwing Orion 2 F-15EX Throttle + F-16EX Stick, TPR Pedals, TIR5, Win 11 Pro x64, Odyssey G93SC 5120X1440
Havremonster Posted March 14, 2019 Posted March 14, 2019 I have given up using Persian Gulf map. All other maps runs ok...
Crimson_Ghost138 Posted March 14, 2019 Author Posted March 14, 2019 Update: I got some big improvements after re-assigning my Virtual Memory to 16GB on an SSD. Now the RAM usage on Persian Gulf is not running completly full on my physical 16GB and everything runs much smoother, even in VR! Problem still is, when i fly the new F14, over large citys in Persian Gulf, of course my performance goes down.... but its much better then before! @Havremonster: Check the Virtual Memory settings and try the same, maybe it works for you as well :)
D.Va Posted March 14, 2019 Posted March 14, 2019 (edited) I don't have any memory problems on the Persian map. Are you playing multiplayer or singleplayer? I get 12-13 GB RAM use in SP. Edited March 14, 2019 by D.Va Read my DCS 2.5 Optimisation Guide (version 2.5.4): https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=3828073
Eldur Posted March 15, 2019 Posted March 15, 2019 I had DCS up to 17-18GB the last time I checked on PG, but I had the Caucasus loaded before that and didn't restart the sim. Got 32GB of RAM though, but without pagefile. I'd recommend planning the 32GB rig, but you could start out with 16GB anyway if that gets you the thing earlier. And if you might not need it now, DCS will grow further in the future. Another 8 years with the new rig (that's how old your current CPU is) and I'm pretty sure you wouldn't be satisfied with just 16GB anymore.
