BoneDust Posted March 15, 2019 Posted March 15, 2019 This has probably been post before but can we get the airport lighting active at night without having to call the tower; it is not realistic as it currently is. cheers Alienware New Aurora R15 | Windows® 11 Home Premium | 64bit, 13thGen Intel(R) Core(TM) i9 13900KF(24-Core, 68MB| NVIDIA(R) GeForce RTX(TM) 4090, 24GB GDDR6X | 1 X 2TB SSD, 1X 1TB SSD | 64GB, 2x32GB, DDR5, 4800MHz | 1350W PSU, Alienware Cryo-tech (TM) Edition CPU Liquid Cooling power supply | Pimax Crystal VR
mkiii Posted April 3, 2019 Posted April 3, 2019 It is, if it's military - and there is an alert state (or war on). This is a combat sim y'know ;)
maxTRX Posted April 3, 2019 Posted April 3, 2019 It is, if it's military - and there is an alert state (or war on). This is a combat sim y'know ;) … circa WW2 perhaps it was crucial  Hey I can understand airfields saving on electric bills... cool idea: click 5 times on the mike button and the lights come on... like on some small airfields in some parts of the world. Perhaps DCS is using some left over script from Lockon or... that's the way things are done in some parts of the world:smilewink: It's especially annoying doing carrier ops... I know, Carrier module is coming and I'm buying if it gives me a chance to set up expected recovery times (with lights on!:D) I hate clicking through menus when my focus is on taming the Hornet's PA mode in the most critical phase.
cailean_556 Posted April 4, 2019 Posted April 4, 2019 Even now, air bases would have no or very little light if there was a threat BUT, I do agree with you. Even if there's a tick-box setting (All NEUTRAL on/off, All BLUE on/off, All RED on/off, All on/off) 'on' being the lights remain on regardless, 'off' being what they are now. Or, if you wanted to be THAT GUY, each air field could have a tick box on/off for lighting. so you could have air fields far from the front line lit up like Christmas, and ones closer observing more stringent light controls...
Xilon_x Posted April 4, 2019 Posted April 4, 2019 but should pilots also be trained to land on an aircraft carrier with the lights off? in the event of a real real war the carrier must be totally with the lights off
maxTRX Posted April 4, 2019 Posted April 4, 2019 (edited) but should pilots also be trained to land on an aircraft carrier with the lights off? in the event of a real real war the carrier must be totally with the lights off I haven't been following on the most recent systems available to the pilots and … drones:glare: but I think the "drop lights" and landing area lights are still critical for last 4,5 seconds of approach. These lights are not exactly Christmas lights. Oh... and the ball too Edited April 4, 2019 by Gripes323
BoneDust Posted April 4, 2019 Author Posted April 4, 2019 It is, if it's military - and there is an alert state (or war on). This is a combat sim y'know ;) Lights off doesn't really do much with today's technology. None the less, yes it is a combat sim but it can also be a non-combat sim. Make it an option to have them on or off would be the best solution. Partly this. Only make one setting ON/OFF or else we soon will have a script making the airport lights flash as it's a house party event.

Perhaps I'm wrong, but I usually contact ATC 20+ miles away for inbound, and you can def req landing while in pattern distance. If you're doing all that on final, yes it's a hassle... but you're not supposed to do it when you're on final ;) Де вороги, знайдуться козаки їх перемогти. 5800x3d * 3090 * 64gb * Reverb G2
