eatthis Posted January 19, 2020 Posted January 19, 2020 The current behaviour is still wrong and should be fixed soon: so pdstt will effectively be a massive sparrow? target gets no launch warning at all? sarh/dl, is that datalink? what happens if you do a tws launch >10nm then immediately bugger off? any ideas when this is happening? what actually happens now? is it always active off the rail atm?? 7700k @5ghz, 32gb 3200mhz ram, 2080ti, nvme drives, valve index vr
umkhunto Posted January 19, 2020 Posted January 19, 2020 It's not. If it was the Tomcat wouldn't have its vaunted ability to engage six targets at the same time. I mean that's not entirely true. The R-33 is SARH, however the MiG-31 can guide more than one of them onto a target, due to it's AESA radar. In the case of the Tomcat, yes, the missile is a fox 3, but requires the go active command from the Tomcat's WCS, whereas an AIM-120, will go active a certain distance from the target, without requiring a go active command from the launching platform.
QuiGon Posted January 20, 2020 Posted January 20, 2020 so pdstt will effectively be a massive sparrow? Yes, pretty much. target gets no launch warning at all? The target will get a warning, just like it gets when a Sparrow gets launched on it. sarh/dl, is that datalink? SARH = Semi Active Radar Homing DL = Data Link Again, just like a modern Sparrow. what happens if you do a tws launch >10nm then immediately bugger off? AFAIK the missile gets lost, as it doesn't recieve the "go active" command. any ideas when this is happening? Nope, it was ready to be released in December, but then they encountered last minute issues in multiplayer testing and had to push it back. Those MP issues seem to go pretty deep and it is unclear when it will go live. what actually happens now? is it always active off the rail atm?? Atm it behaves like an AMRAAM, meaning it always goes active at a certain distance or when the shooter looses lock. In PD STT the antenna is continuously tracking only one target which is receiving all radar energy. Not exactly a stealthy attack mode :smilewink: Mirage fanatic ! QuiGon Posted January 20, 2020 Posted January 20, 2020 I imagine it's the same, it' still a STT mode Sure, in regards to beeing SARH as well, but I'm not sure if the Phoenix can even be guided by PSTT or if it requires PDSTT for guidance. No but they only know ive locked them up, not that ive fired on ghem But the radar frequency changes for weapon guidance and the enemy RWR can detect that as a launch. jojo Posted January 20, 2020 Posted January 20, 2020 What about PSTT? In P STT you would be launching AIM-54 in active mode, not in SARH mode. http://www.heatblur.se/F-14Manual/general.html#pulse-mode http://www.heatblur.se/F-14Manual/weapons.html#id3 Mirage fanatic ! I'm not sure if this is how it currently works ingame though, as I made a habit of switching to P-STT prior to launch, in order to get a "iron grip" on the target. It works quite well and the Phoenixes worked just like in PD-STT. Intel i7-12700K @ 8x5GHz+4x3.8GHz + 32 GB DDR5 RAM + Nvidia Geforce RTX 2080 (8 GB VRAM) + M.2 SSD + Windows 10 64Bit DCS Panavia Tornado (IDS) really needs to be a thing!

I’m not sure that P STT would be “iron grip” in BVR though IRL. Maybe some DCS/ module limitation here. Ground noise in look down, chaff, ECM range gate pull off mode (yes I know, only noise jamming in game). But that’s good to know, I will give it a try  At least the PD STT should give you a better target discrimination. Launching in active mode, you’re not sure what will be locked...can be important in crowded fight :D Mirage fanatic ! Launching in active mode, you’re not sure what will be locked...can be important in crowded fight :D It doesn't seem to launch in active mode, when you launch in P-STT (contrary to what the manual says). At least I've never noticed any such behaviour and I used it multipe times that way against an enemy with a friendly somewhere inbetween. It always guided on the intended target.
