Mouse_99 Posted March 27, 2019 Posted March 27, 2019 I saw Wags video about setting up JDAMs, and he kind of glossed over a setting I believe it was setting velocity to 700 ft. Don't know what that means, not sure if that means you can set it other than or why you would, anyone with more information on that?
Gierasimov Posted March 27, 2019 Posted March 27, 2019 (edited) Hi, This will be added to the JDAM later on. It was just an example of entering data, sort of "what to expect" preview. JDAM will be coming in a later update I believe as per Wags, this slipped from today's OB patch. So to answer your question, it will be discussed more in depth later on, when it is actually working and have a meaning, but velocity is part of the terminal settings. Once released, JDAM performs a safe separation manoeuvre and commences autonomous guidance to the selected target according to the desired terminal parameters. KlarSnow Posted March 28, 2019 Posted March 28, 2019 Entering the speed for the JDAM is for achieving Desired Weapons effects on a hardened target. IE 700FPS may not have enough energy for bomb Y to penetrate X feet of concrete, but 900 may, depending on the impact angle etc... Honestly, not really necessary at all in DCS unless they do something more advanced with bomb impacts where delaying your fuze has a huge impact on the kind of damage you do to a structure or target set, and where you have to do a lot more than just get the bomb onto the target, in order to have the effects desired.

With some of the things like the DSU-33 coming and the fuze settings that are already there, hopefully we start seeing some weaponeering effects show up, even if fairly simplified.
