imacken Posted May 28, 2019 Posted May 28, 2019 Ars Techinca's one week impression. They went a bit deeper into FOV, subpixels, and sweet spots (page 2) https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2019/05/one-week-with-the-valve-index-a-vr-game-changer-with-a-few-question-marks/ Yep, that shows the YT video linked above seems to be out of step with everything else I’ve read about Godrays and the sweet spot on the Index. Loz Posted May 29, 2019 Posted May 29, 2019 This doesn't sound so good though. The first reference I've seen to running DCS with the Index. Don't think he tried too hard to get it going properly though. i9 9900x at 5.1 Ghz // ASUS ROG Maximus XI Formula EK Bloc // 64Gb Corsair Vengence 3600Mhz DDR4 Ram // Gigabyte Aorus 3090 Watercooled block//Samsung SM951 M2 x4 SSD // Windows 10 64 Bit //48inch LG48 @ 3840x2160 120Hz//Asus ROG Swift PG35VQ 3440 x 14440 144Hz // TM Warthog HOTAS (Ser. Svsmokey Posted May 29, 2019 Posted May 29, 2019 Don't think he tried too hard to get it going properly though. My impression as well , and there is no doubt the Index would (currently) be asking a lot from a 1070 in DCS . The VR optimisation might get that combo into the playable range tho.... 9700k @ stock , Aorus Pro Z390 wifi , 32gb 3200 mhz CL16 , 1tb EVO 970 , MSI RX 6800XT Gaming X TRIO , Seasonic Prime 850w Gold , Coolermaster H500m , Noctua NH-D15S , CH Pro throttle and T50CM2/WarBrD base on Foxxmounts , CH pedals , Reverb G2v2

Just as a point of reference, I had a Vive pro, which has the same resolution as the Index, and the Index is predicted to have the same performance requirements. Running on a GTX970, with a CPU of similar vintage (I think its an 6600K or 6700K, its not new so I cant remember), every VR game I had was maxed out on settings and running at some smooth FPS (never actually got around to measuring, didnt need to, it was smooth). All, that is, except for DCS, where I had to set all settings to minimum and was still getting terrible FPS, probably in the 20-30s. But just look back at the video card I mention there, thats the minimum spec stated by Index. On a 1070, an Index will do just fine. Not blisteringly fast or eye poppingly beautiful, but certainly fit for purpose and no slouch. Edited May 29, 2019 by p1t1o

I have a Vive Pro and a 2080Ti, and with medium settings I get a pretty steady 45fps, but that drops down to 30 in seriously dense areas of maps. This is why I am sceptical of most people being able to run DCS on a Reverb, and talk of the 120/144Hz refresh rate on the Index seems like pie in the sky at the moment! Nagilem Posted May 29, 2019 Posted May 29, 2019 That is my number 1 concern - how the 2080ti will perform with the Index. I have an o+ now with the same general res working great with DCS with most things set low and a 1.3 PD (no outside SS - 100% in SteamVR). With this, my cockpit is very readible, but outside IFF of planes not so good (AntiSDE screen makes small things very fuzzy). I hope the VR optimization and losing the Anti SDE screen will improve my experience greatly. Fingers crossed. :pilotfly: Specs: I9-9900k; ROG Strix RTX 2080ti; Valve Index HMD; 32GB DDR4 3200 Ram; Samsung 970 EVO 1TB SSD; TM Warthog with pedals, 3 TM MFDs

Not as good as other flight sims, but once we get the 50% VR boost it should be in the ballpark. Plus you can reduce refresh from 90hz to 60hz and it runs well at 60hz.
