wow I just realized it's been almost a year since I started skinning...I got to looking at the evolution of my work, and I was surprised how many I've cranked out. I guess I must like it :) I thought it might be interesting to post some shots of my releases in no particular order, and then some of my test/unreleased skins. Enjoy!

Wow, some great skins there, good job.

Can you re-skin an existing plane or do you need the 3d Max file to do it?

I've never done a template before...is that what you're asking? I'm not sure I'd even know where to start...does 3ds max output a general layout for the skin or what?

The first one is at lockonfiles and is listed as winter punisher or something like that. The last two you mention I haven't released. If you have to have them I could look in my files when I get home tonight and see if I still have them (I should), and upload them somewhere for you.

Sorry what I mean is, if I gave you our Hawk mod can you re-skin from the files within the mod, or do you need the original 3d model?

I'm not sure how LOMAC structures the files.

Okay let's see...Normally LO stores skins in .cdds files, but those skins can be overridden by placing a .bmp or .tga (with the same file name as appears in the .cdds) in bazar/temptextures. No matter where you put the new skin it all begins with a template which is a .psd file that contains separate layers for things like panel lines, weathering, camo/pattern, details etc. The .psd is where the REAL work is in skinning. They are quite laborious to make and my hats off to those who have dedicated the time and effort to make them. Making skins is easy. Making templates is hard.

So if you just sent me your mod that either includes the .bmp/.tga files or a .cdds with the skins (which the skin files can be extracted from), I'd still have to make a template in order to make new skins. Who made the skins originally? Do they not have a template? You might want to get in touch with someone who has made a new model and ask them about the process of making a template from the 3ds max files. I have no idea how that works.
