Tinkickef Posted April 5, 2019 Posted April 5, 2019 (edited) Just tried installing the F14 via the torrent and left it downloading. It stalled fairly early on due to defender detecting a Trojan in the torrent. It was called Trojan;Script/Foretype,A!ml which defender classes as a severe risk. Do not install the F14 without virus protection enabled. Someone out there on the DCS torrent has it on his PC. Bloody typical, I wait 6 months for the Tomcat to come to stable branch and it comes with an unwelcome Easter Egg because some a hole preyed on someone with sloppy PC protection. Currently trying the HTTP method. Edited April 14, 2019 by IronMike System spec: i9 9900K, Gigabyte Aorus Z390 Ultra motherboard, 32Gb Corsair Vengeance DDR4 3200 RAM, Corsair M.2 NVMe 1Tb Boot SSD. Rudel_chw Posted April 5, 2019 Posted April 5, 2019 Windows Defender is garbage. Every Antivirus can have false-positives ... my point was that all these reports were from people using the same AV, so it seems likely that this is a false-positive situation ... how you can establish the quality of an antivirus just with that case is a mistery to me. But yet. As said earlier. HTTP downloaded with no problems. Torrent did have problems. Are you so sure of your expertise that you are confident that you do not now have a trapdoor on your pc that you do not know about? I am a PC ignoramus, but I am quoting first hand empirical evidence. I am tentatively known as an expert in my own field,( mechanical engineering rather than electronics or programming) but one thing I have learned is that when I start thinking I am good, Fate tends to remind me that I am fumbling around in the dark, just like everyone else. 100s or may be many 1000s are resting on your answer Are you prepared to take the responsibility on for their DCS Welfare? And no, I am not being overly dramatic, many people just might have a nasty virus that you are poo poohing. You get all that from my "seems like a false-positive to me" phrase? really? I was just giving my opinion, like everyone else here ... wasnt aware that by doing so I was taking responsability for someone else's welfare. Eldur Posted April 6, 2019 Posted April 6, 2019 All the people that has reported this (see https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=238022) use Windows defender as antivirus .. seems like a false-positive to me, or else we would have reports from people using other antiviruses. I'm using MSSE at home (which is WD for a real OS that is out of Early Access already) and not having any issues. I do a Kaspersky run as well somethimes though with the tool that can be downloaded off of their site. Windows Defender is garbage. Not any bit more than all those utterly demanding (hardware and nerves) pieces of software that you even have to pay up for on a regular basis. I've had false positives with lots of them all across the board, includung Norton Symantec, Kaspersky, NOD32, eset and TrendMicro, also in business (including the code I wrote by myself, sic!). Not even going to mention those crappy "adwareish" ones you'd get for free that literally ask you to buy a subscription every 20 minutes or so. WD at the very least isn't bloatware. And it is well enough for private usage, especially when you need every little bit of performance that your rig can give, for things like... DCS. Wouldn't recommend it in business either, though. After all, the best Antivirus still is a thorough instance in Layer 8. But yet. As said earlier. HTTP downloaded with no problems. Torrent did have problems. This is the real issue here... and just another reason not to like torrent distribution of DCS. Basically you'd have to do a repair after each update or module installation just to make sure you're safe and sound just because of some c00l haXx0r brats on the internet who think they're awesome by spoiling other peoples' days just because they somehow found out how to...

Tinkickef Posted April 6, 2019 Author Posted April 6, 2019 (edited) Strikeeagle and rudel. I broke one of my own internet rules last night. I read and then responded to an internet forum after consuming far more beer than I should have. Sadly it is a rule I break far more often than I would like. I just came on to delete my non constructive and passive aggressive responses to your posts, but found you had already replied. Please accept my apologies for my alcohol induced lack of judgement. Abject and grovelling apologies from a very hurty head. Now where did I put the paracetamol?
