bonesvf103 Posted April 10, 2019 Posted April 10, 2019 Read the manual but do't really get the practical application of the pipper and diamond. If I get a radar lock, then I'm to put the pipper on the target and pull the trigger, but what does the diamond have to do with it? Also when the entire HUD display flashes, what does that mean? Dunno, maybe this bad cold is affecting my understanding but what the manual says and applying it in the sim doesn't make much sense to me. v6, boNes "Also, I would prefer a back seater over the extra gas any day. VampireNZ Posted April 10, 2019 Posted April 10, 2019 Put the thing on the thing and 'kill em!' (The diamond IS the radar lock indication - check sig pic) Vampire
VC Posted April 10, 2019 Posted April 10, 2019 Diamond is just showing you the locked target. If there's no diamond there's no lock, so the pipper range isn't necessarily the target range. Greyhound11 Posted April 10, 2019 Posted April 10, 2019 not to the muddy the waters, but if you dont have a lock, there is a mode that has the pipper AND the diamond, and in that mode they represent where your bullets will hit 1000 feet and 2000 feet out, respectively. Then when you lock, the diamond shifts to the target so you can put the thing on the thing and fire. if the whole hud blinks, youre too close when the diamond blinks real quick and goes back to the target, its tracking the bullets.
bonesvf103 Posted April 11, 2019 Author Posted April 11, 2019 Oh, ok, thanks for the explanation. v6, boNes "Also, I would prefer a back seater over the extra gas any day. I would have 80 pounds of flesh to eat and a pair of glasses to start a fire." --F/A-18 Hornet pilot
r4y30n Posted April 12, 2019 Posted April 12, 2019 when the diamond blinks real quick and goes back to the target, its tracking the bullets. I thought only the big guns on the ships did that... Like AEGIS tracking the 5-inch rounds.
Victory205 Posted April 12, 2019 Posted April 12, 2019 It's not tracking the bullets. It's showing the bullet location at one bullet time of flight at the target's range. Good training feedback. Fly Pretty, anyone can Fly Safe.
CSL_Ondras Posted April 12, 2019 Posted April 12, 2019 (edited) About the gun - I personally do not get the break X behavior. What is the distance from the target in which it should appear? As you can see on the attached picture, I am sitting in the nice position behind the Fishbed, the distance from him, I would say, is ideal for the gun kill, yet the break X just unnecessarily clutters the HUD and in fact always disrupts my concentration. Is this correctly done by HB, Victory? O. Edited April 12, 2019 by CVS_Ondras

I do not believe our Mk45 tracked its rounds. (we did get to sink a ship with it though when I was on DDG-81!)
