Eyedeas Posted April 11, 2019 Posted April 11, 2019 Is there a way to see the specific bank angle in degrees in the F-15? Like, if my buddy and I are trying to turn together and stay close, I'd rather say I'm going to make a left turn at 35* bank so he can match it. But I can't seem to find that data displayed anywhere. The HUD doesn't list anything that I can see and "eyeballing" it doesn't work very well. Thoughts?

KlarSnow Posted April 11, 2019 Posted April 11, 2019 Its much easier if trying to keep formation to try and hold an airspeed and then turn in a level turn than to try and set a bank angle. For example, fly at 350 knots, then make a level turn in mil (maximum non afterburner) power without slowing down or speeding up, you will then fly the exact same turn parameters (bank angle, G, turn radius/rate). If you are trying to match bank angles in a close formation, its better to just be looking outside the cockpit at your formation reference (the other aircraft) watching and just matching it visually, than trying to fly it off of instruments.

Valid points. A buddy of mine is a little rusty on basic flight maneuvering so I was seeing if there was a way to give him a reference of what we were about to do ahead of time. Once he is a little more proficient I think visually will be easier overall.

GGTharos Posted April 12, 2019 Posted April 12, 2019 I get the impression that he's learning bad habits instead - instrument flying instead of contact flying. Once he is a little more proficient I think visually will be easier overall. Cmptohocah Posted May 29, 2019 Posted May 29, 2019 When it comes to tandem flying, your leads wings are your artificial horizon. Basically the wingman tries to match the lead's bank angle. Cmptohocah=CMPTOHOCAH
