Kev2go Posted June 9, 2019 Author Posted June 9, 2019 (edited) AH! suoer cobra uaooooooooooooo an AMERICAN helicopter I prefer it ++++ and this is better than the apache i suppose its arguable when comparing AH64A in certain aspects, mostly with armament versatility anyways ( and this varying contemporary time period), As Air frame design the Apache was always more modern. I also absolutely wouldn't say Ah1W its better than the Ah64D. The Longbow has more modern digital based avionics, IE, Glass cockpits, more advanced navigation suite which includes moving map, The longbow A/G radar , and radar based fire and forget hellfires ( AGM114L) that can fire without necessitating direct LOS, and datalinking capabilities. These sort of avionics features are more akin to the stuff you find in jets like the F/A18 or something. At the end of the day Ah1Z would be the USMC contemporary of the US Army's Ah64D minus AGM114L and Longbow radar, although they had tested apg78 radar pod mounted underwing hard point Edited June 9, 2019 by Kev2go Build: Windows 10 64 bit Pro Case/Tower: Corsair Graphite 760tm ,Asus Strix Z790 Motherboard, Intel Core i7 12700k ,Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 64gb ram (3600 mhz) , (Asus strix oc edition) Nvidia RTX 3080 12gb , Evga g2 850 watt psu, Hardrives ; Samsung 970 EVo, , Samsung evo 860 pro 1 TB SSD, Samsung evo 850 pro 1TB SSD, WD 1TB HDD
csdigitaldesign Posted June 12, 2019 Posted June 12, 2019 (edited) Guys, they are not doing the AH-1F. They are doing the AH-1S. It was mentioned on the announcements a few months ago. But I'd like the AH-1W as well. Harlikwin Posted June 12, 2019 Posted June 12, 2019 Hm... Did they say which S version. The F is basically a fully upgraded S. I wonder if they will bone us on things like defensive systems and thermals, which the F has, but not all of the S versions did. " In a video wags instead let it slip that the ah1f was in the plans It's very likely these are just plans and that they are still in the research phase. And probably havent started development yet since the mi24p is the next rotorcraft coming out ( and in wip, but slow progress) after team members are freed up after f16 release, and finishing off hornet from ea. Harlikwin Posted June 12, 2019 Posted June 12, 2019 I'd be ok with the F. At least it has a basic thermal system. The W would fit the modern era much better though. I wonder if they will bone us on things like defensive systems and thermals, which the F has, but not all of the S versions did. Yea initially was know as ah1s modernized stage 3 or something, but 1988 got re designated ah1f. Even so the time period still matter to certain extent with the ah1f. Initially they still had an/apr 39 v1 rwr. ( basically just simple directional lines indicators like nam era AN/apr25/35)Later upgraded to an/apr39a v1. Digital hardware upgrades which basically turned to to a rwr displaying alpha numeric symbology similar to what you have in various gen 4 aircraft. Post cold war likely near the end of its service life the ah1f's got a simple GPS receiver, as additional navigation aid But even so the ah1f doesn't have as good cm suite as ah1w, nor not as good stand off range ( no hellfires), no A2A missiles, no anti Sam defense missiles, and having inferior navigation aids as ah1w in contrast were upgraded with a embedded ins/GPS system with control display unit panel to utilize it. The ah1w would also have better redundancy due to 2 turbine engines, which also offer more power. Remember in terms of initial introduction AH1f and AH1W are really only 2 years apart. Both of them came in the last few years of the cold war, and didn't see their first combat use until post cold war era starting in the Gulf war. It's just that the latter received more modernization as well as ending up serving longer, as time progressed since the us army had adopted the apache, and didnt feel the need to invest as much modernizing a platform that was going to be gradually being replaced unlike the USMC. Yea the Ah1W is more associated with more modern conflicts given its longer service date, and thus its subsequent its participation lasting through various conflicts related to the "GWOT" within the 21st century. However a truly potent "modern" US helicopter would be the AH64D Longbow or Ah1Z, but i digress.
