I do use a lot of mud mover (a-10 and Ka50) but I decided to buy F14 because I always loved that plane.

I have some difficult in dogfight. I think that these difficulties derive by two factors, the enemy dimension and the padlocking difficulties. I would like to give Eagle Dynamics two suggestion to remove this handicap which, I think, depends by the screen dimension which is compressed if compared to real life.

Enemy plane dimension. In real life you will dogfight at a distance from 0 to 2 nm; at this distance you can clearly see your enemy (if you can keep eyes on him); in the game a plane 1,5 nm away is a little point on the screen which is almost impossible to be seen; that is because in the screen everything is smaller than in the real thing. So my first suggestion Is to allow the player to enhance the dimension of the enemy to restore the possibilities to see your enemy like the real thing is ( I know that this may be considered cheating but I don’t think it is because is just a way to remove a handicap you have by the small dimension of the screen).

Padloking enemy plane. In a game I played a lot in the past (Falcon 4.0), there was a way to padlock your enemy in dogfight in the same way a real pilot would do. I try dogfight with Track Ir but because of the dimension of the enemy plane (see problem above) it is very difficult to keep an eye on the enemy. So my second suggestion is to allow the player to padlock the enemy (as you can do with sam).

I think that introducing these two options should not be a great software problem and would not be something that alter the realism of the game but restore it to be more adherent to the real thing.

To remove the "handicap" you use the zoom. For bad SA you use labels. TiR is just fine to "padlock" the enemy in the mentioned range.

zoom as a cure for terrible spotting is a joke, though. i don't know if every zoom advocate has telescopic eyes IRL but it's not exactly realistic to be pounding zoom to see things at close range.

Zoom in as an adjustment to get real angular sizes not to get binocular magnifications. Also you don't need any if close enough.

If ED would set a real fov for every plane 99% of the complaints would be that people won't be able to see anything because everything is zoomed in too much. Zooming has nothing to do with using binoculars, it's just a compensation because nobody is sitting 1m away from a 75" screen to get the proper dimensions like in reality.

And for sure there needs to be some solution because on 1080 resolution i can see the dots 15-20km away but in 4k i have trouble spotting them in 5km distance. But i rather use 4k and no AA and be on a disadvantage than going back to 1080 just to see the enemy sooner.

And there is a padlock function for every aircraft in the controls section of it. You can set up any key or combination like with everything else, some people report that its also overwriting the tir device. So you could fly around with tir and as soon as u hit padlock in the dogfight your view is focused on the enemy bogey.

Zoom view is a universal feature for flight sims. It’s not unique to DCS. It’s there to replicate real world size and resolution on a small PC screen. On a desktop monitor, zoomed in is more like life sized.

Learning to use this feature is key for playing without labels.

How bout us VR shlubs? Yeah I know we have ZOOM, but its disorienting to use it much.

Enemy plane dimension.

This has been talked about a lot. Until there is a better way to do things, use zoom. Changing the aircraft dimensions is but necessarily a good thing to do. Consider aircraft in an airfield 2nm away, when you make then appear larger but not the airfield. Ugly if nothing else.

In real life you will dogfight at a distance from 0 to 2 nm; at this distance you can clearly see your enemy

Depends on the target aircraft and environment. You know where he's going, you know where to look for him to pick him up again.

Padloking enemy plane.

Padlocking is available in game, most servers turn it off since it is NOT realistic. It's not realistic in falcon, either.

If you're playing in single player you can use whatever options you want.

I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda

sorry, too, I have difficulty seeing the enemy as a tiny dot on the screen. which is the most optimal standardization for DCS?

What kind of MONITOR DOES IT WANT?

I have a resolution of 1920X1080 monitopr samsung.
