memoric Posted June 17, 2019 Posted June 17, 2019 Hello I've heard that this week, we get more information about de vive cosmos? It's really exciting to hear more, as it is perhaps the "best" VR Headset in 2019. Thank you! regards
CyStryker Posted June 18, 2019 Posted June 18, 2019 TrackerrIF and Trackhat for now I am watching the same videos from flight sites and vr sites.... hopefully this week all info. I am waiting for my Trackhat for use with my TrackerIR. I watched at least 5 videos 4 of which were in a DCS sim (P51, F18, etc., using this tracking sys... the graphics were clear, you could read them easily and no motion blur..... I saw similar results in a Oculus Rift S... using an Iphone ... within the headset.. nice... The Cosmos should be 2160 x 2160 with RGB subpixel strip. FOV out to maybe 120 degrees? the hz probably 90Hz? The Oculus Rift S is lower than the upcoming Index... which will have a 130 fov (out to subject to IPD, and a hz of up to 120 to 144! My IPD is 67... very close to the upper limits of average range of for adults.... my concerns are: Closer u get to the upper the lower the FOV. I have balance issues hopefully fixed.... and I do not want to suffer vertigo attacks! U can not get up from bed with vertigo... u just fall again on the bed:<) So tracker for me for a while. I need a new large gaming monitor... i am ordering the LG 34GK950G-B. 100-120 Hz nano ISP paner.. around $800.00 at amazon.. best I have seen on the price... CyStryker
Supmua Posted June 18, 2019 Posted June 18, 2019 Where did you get the info that says 2160 x 2160 pixels for the Cosmos? PC: 5800X3D/4090, 11700K/3090, 9900K/2080Ti. CyStryker Posted June 19, 2019 Posted June 19, 2019 Cosmos The info was an educated guess in several videos online by reviewers based upon claims or announcements by developer. It is not for certain.... Hopefully we will find out soon... CyStryker
Supmua Posted June 19, 2019 Posted June 19, 2019 I'm skeptical, but if the resolution is true and it is compatible with SteamVR Lighthouse then it could make a strong product from HTC (but I'm not too impressed with HTC's performance these days). The only thing I could tell from the leaked pictures is that thing has side cameras which means it might have inside-out tracking which would be a minus for me. It's definitely going to be inside out tracking - their website talks about being able to go to your friends or office and play with their 'new' tracking system: https://www.vive.com/hk/cosmos/
dburne Posted June 19, 2019 Posted June 19, 2019 It would seem Valve and Pimax are the last holdouts for not going inside/out tracking. CyStryker Posted June 19, 2019 Posted June 19, 2019 Cosmos resolution GENTS: I have the site where I picked up the possible/probable resolution for the Cosmos... It is MRTV. ... went online four days ago? THE number is based upon HTC announcement that the headset will have the best lenses than any other vr headset they previously released. Their previous one was the HTC Vive Pro at 1600 x 1440. ... nxt step up is the 2160 x 2160? If u wear glasses like I do... you may want to check out Bluntys review of the vr optricsan in headset glasses ( European) and the VR-Lens Lab.com... same insert into the head set. These lenses are specifically designed with your prescription to be inserted to the VR lenses ... this could have a major impact on fov. I need to find out if you need to provide a script for "reading" , close up or for distance.... also... the frames are designed for a specific vr headset... so until the company receives the Cosmos or the Index they would be unable to accurately design a frame for each lense that could be inserted into the vr headset... CyStryker Prescription lenses have existed for a long time - you need to give your distance prescription. The headset's lenses are focused at 2m or so in front of you.
CyStryker Posted June 19, 2019 Posted June 19, 2019 backspace..... I appreciate the info on distance headsets are focused at... I had no info on this at all. If I can use a VR headset.. I will update my distance script and look into the insert lenses I mentioned above CyStryker
FoxTwo Posted June 21, 2019 Posted June 21, 2019 6 cameras. Wow what a revelation. Specs coming next week. It's like HTC doesn't actually want to sell their HMD.
Supmua Posted June 21, 2019 Posted June 21, 2019 Some genius marketing at work here. I can't believe they just showed a spinning video of the headset and tell us to wait until next week for more info. PC: 5800X3D/4090, 11700K/3090, 9900K/2080Ti. Supmua Posted June 22, 2019 Posted June 22, 2019 (edited) ViveCosmos That price if true would make it the most expensive mainstream headset of this gen. Hopefully it will have screen resolution comparable to the HP Reverb. I am also hoping to see OLED screen at that price point (although it probably won’t happen unless it is from Samsung). The contrast and vividness of the Vive Pro screen has somewhat spoiled me. This headset is one of the reasons I haven’t taken the plunge and order the Reverb. Other reasons being that Acer and Samsung will likely release their competing headsets later this year. Edited June 22, 2019 by Supmua PC: 5800X3D/4090, 11700K/3090, 9900K/2080Ti. It is huge, unjustified full 50% (300$) difference in price compared to Reverb and 125% (500$, after Nvidia Super price drop, add another 100$ and you got Rift S + RTX 2080 for just 100$ more than 900$ Cosmos) compared to Rift S. Unfortunately, it is the exact price which I was predict Month ago based on HTC Focus price and comparison with Quest. Only possible customers who will buy this product are those minority of 5% with extremely wide or narrow IPD because of manual IPD adjustment and all of that if no one else releases it. So far we know about ACER Ojo will have and if they put a realistic price of 700$ they are doomed. Also, I'm expecting in near future some sort of Rift2 based on some sort of hybrid Quest/Rift-S with dual 2160x2160 displays and manual IPD for 600 to 700$. Also, we could expect Odissay 2 with such displays and manual IPD for the same price between 600 and 700$. Simply HTC VR could despair from the market in the near future if they don't adapt to the market dictate.

I think Oculus has changed direction and no longer wish to compete with high end PC-VR in the market. They have a larger global strategy and feel mobile is what is going to really expand their reach. If they accomplish that, it is good for VR as a whole no doubt. But not the direction as I as a PC- enthusiast want to go. Having said that, I certainly have no regrets getting the Rift S. I did so very reluctantly but after getting and using it (once my issue was sorted) I am quite pleased with it. If HP gets the issues sorted with Reverb I may end up getting one to use with flight sims, and use my Rift S for all the Oculus Touch games I enjoy. I don't see myself spending the bucks on say an Index or a new HTC unit.
