dburne Posted July 6, 2019 Posted July 6, 2019 (edited) I am looking to pull the Trigger on the Oculus Rift S and want to know about somethings Will it run DCS pretty Well with the Below specs? Intel i9 9900K EVGA Z390 Dark Corsair Vengeance LPX 32GB EVGA RTX 2080Ti EVGA SuperNova G3 850 I heard that there is problems with running Dual Monitors and Oculus Rift S is this bad? The white flashes is this hardware or software? The reason I ask is I'm worried about having problems and not enjoying myself with the game  Pretty much same rig as I have, loving my Z390 Dark and i9 9900k combo. You will be golden. It runs with DCS quite well. I have mine running at 5.1 GHz on all 8 cores, with no AVX offset. I get a very brief and very occasional white flash. It certainly is not a deal breaker for me, and hardly even notice it. Supposedly they are working on it, no official word on it yet though. Two monitors - I was the one that was pulling my hair out at first on an black screen issue. After first launch of Oculus Home and running Rift S, after closing Home then re-launching it a littler later while computer remained running during this time, I would get audio but no video in headset. Everything showed it was running properly, but no video. After several days troubleshooting I discovered if I changed my display to show on Monitor 1 only, then I would not get this black screen at all. So now before I start VR session I just change display to Monitor 1 only and never have the issue. I have seen a couple others with this, but also have seen others with two monitors that it does not happen to. Not a big deal to me as when I am gaming with VR I don't really see my monitors anyway. Once done with my VR session I just change back to extended display on my two monitors. I have had my Rift S since May 24th, using it pretty much daily. Loving it. Suggest you buy from Amazon as they have a great return for replacement or money back 30 day policy, just in case. I sent my first Rift S back before I figured out what was causing my black screen, and Amazon actually shipped my replacement at no charge before I even sent the first one back. Raven68 Posted July 8, 2019 Posted July 8, 2019 New Rift S owner since Friday and I really love it! I have seen the white flash occasionally myself also a jittery effect after some time flying, but not a deal breaker at all! The VR move is the best thing that happened to DCS as far as I can see at the moment. I am at work as I type this and soooo ready to leave and get back home for more fun. The simple mission of the cold start and take off in the F-18 @ Persian Gulf will make your jaw drop! I love my purchase! VitS Posted July 8, 2019 Posted July 8, 2019 You definitely need to upgrade your PC for Rift S. Oh wait, you have top components
ElementLT Posted July 8, 2019 Posted July 8, 2019 Had my rift s and 2080 TI for 2 weeks now - no regrets at all. Coming Soon... The Fraternity Returns : https://thefraternitysim.com/
VampireNZ Posted July 8, 2019 Posted July 8, 2019 Yes at noted by others there is the infrequent white flash that isn't abiggie. The view resetting to outside the aircraft is a pretty big deal, more so if you are right in the middle of something fairly delicate etc. Just need to map the Re-centre VR view to a button on your joystick and sit straight and re centre - so forget about that particular bombing run or AAR drogue hook up and try again. Looks like it might be a software driver issue which hopefully Oculus will fix soon. There is also quite a bit of jitter with this headset - or if you set it down on a table unmoving - the image will be jittering around. This is standard in VR to some extent or other, (ideally less than 1mm) but has been reported to be quite bad in the Rift S, and seems to not be specifically dependant on the tracking environment as long as you have decent light levels. Hopefully driver updates will improve this also. Vampire
iKyrThraad993i Posted July 8, 2019 Author Posted July 8, 2019 Well like I said black screen and white flashes as long as its not hardware related and can be fixed I'm fine. right now I cracked my stupid tooth so rift S is getting placed on hold till next year

iKyrThraad993i Posted July 14, 2019 Author Posted July 14, 2019 Any other opinions and info on black screens and white flashes to put mind at ease and help me decide?
Lensman Posted July 14, 2019 Posted July 14, 2019 My Rift S is running rock solid for some time now. I get the 'flash' maybe once every two hours of playing, sometimes never notice one at all in a flying session. Excellent crisp visuals, can read just about everything in the cockpit from normal seating position and good fps with no stuttering. Intel Core i7 6700K @ 4.5GHz. some1 Posted July 15, 2019 Posted July 15, 2019 From what I gather, the white flashes are universal, basically all users experience them from time to time. Oculus says something about firmware fix incoming, but other than that, no solid info, and they said the same 2 months ago. Hardware: VPForce Rhino, FSSB R3 Ultra, Virpil WarBRD, Hotas Warthog, Winwing F15EX, Slaw Rudder, GVL224 Trio Throttle, Thrustmaster MFDs, Saitek Trim wheel, Trackir 5, Quest Pro
