Nineline has previously indicated that the way the advisory box hides important info on the DDI is not a bug.

So, is there any workaround to see this covered info apart from switching DDIs around which is a bit of a pain?

Just one example attached, where it is impossible to see the HT setting you are trying to set for the Rockeyes. To set this I have to swap the Stores page to the right DDI and put what I had on the right into the left.

There must be a better solution.

No, there is not. Only thing that apparantly *IS* a bug (afaik), is that the ADV-line should disappear completely, when there are none (which is not the case anyway, in your screenshot).

No, there is no way around it on purpose, because these are advisory messages that are supposed to gain the pilots attention on an issue, so he can fix it. In case of the INLET ICE message on your screenshot this message tells you to turn on engine anti-ice to prevent failures due to icing! So you better should follow that advise and if you do so, the message will disappear (it takes roughly a minute to take effect after you turned engine icing on).

Not sure about that to be honest. For example, when A/P is on, it shows an advisory and blocks out useful info. Advisories are not always something that needs fixing.

I know that it is correct behaviour, I was just wondering if there was a way to get round having to swap out DDI pages from left to right on a regular basis. Doesn'rt seem totally logical to my little brain to not be able to set certain parameters on weapons without swapping DDIs. But, what do I know!

(Re INLET ICE, I'm sure you are aware that this appears pretty much all the time in DCS Hornet missions and has been discussed often here. I have given up bothering to turn on anti-ice!)

Indeed, some advisories don't require action (AP advisories), but if you're flying on AP, you're probably not in the middle of the action and can swap the desired page with another screen. I usally have the EWR page on my left DDI and IIRC there's nothing that gets obscured by the AP advisories anyways.

It does indeed, so I turn on engine anti-ice on pretty much every flight to avoid this advisory message. Problem solved.

That’s all fair enough, but in almost all vids, missions, etc. stores is on the left DDI which, along with the SA page suffers the most from data being obscured.

Still, I guess we just have to live with it!

Yeah, just like the real pilots:

Yes, intended. Just as in the real aircraft.

Yep, as I’ve said from the start, I know it’s correctly modelled, just wondered how people are best working round it.

The problem will be solved when data cartridge become available so we can program specific MFD to display what we want on each mode Nav, AA or AG.

I'm not sure this is possible on the legacy Hornets. I remember reading that the default displays for each mode were hard-coded into the MC.

I keep the Radar on the Right DDI and the SA page on the AMPCD (which is standard USN practice, AFAIK). In general, I don't keep any page with info I need at the bottom, on the Left DDI.

Weapon displays, such as the IMAV, HARM and JDAM displays, don't have the advisory line, which I think it's a bug. When the line cannot be displayed on the LDDI, it's supposed to go to the AMPCD and then to the RDDI, which happens, but not with the Weapons displays (unless I'm mistaken).

BTW, this won't be much of an issue when they fix the ADV- blanking line's behavior so it disappears without advisories present.

I brought this up way back when as I’m familiar with other MD/Boeing designs. In a common case, the -15 will allow you to move cautions to particular screens based on personal preferences or ‘box’ the cautions and minimize them off screen with use of the HOTAS castle and depressing the Master Caution button. Much to my disappointment, the F/A-18 possesses none of those functions. Just goes to show you that not all aircraft, even though they share a lot of common designs, are not designed equally. There’s a lot of nice HOTAS functions that exist in the -15 world that for whatever reason, although extremely useful, were not incorporated in the Navy’s stuff. Silly IMO, but it’s the way it is.

Its from Wags himself if my memory serves me right. I'm too lazy to search it but he posted it on the forum.

Pretty sure he replied to that in my wish list items thread. He may have stated it more places than there too.
