And ordered a VPC MongoosT-50CM2 Base. For those that have used the TM Warthog base and then gone over to the T-50CM2 base. Has anyone used the cams that remove the center detent? If so, how is/was it. How is the cam with the center detent? Is it any better then the Warthog. Fnally, For those in the US how long after you placed your order did you receive your product?

Thanks in advance,

Lucky

It's personal pref, but the Virpil cam WITH the detent is miles ahead of the TM WH cam. The Virpil without the detente is as well. You'll just have to try it and see which you prefer, the difference is subtle so far as the center detentes go IMO, but the movement as you get further out in the stick throw, the difference in cams becomes a bit more noticeable. I use the no detente Virpil cams for my space games, and with detente for sims. You'll like both a lot more than your TM stick/gimbal, I'll tell you that for nothing.

So far as speed regarding the processing and delivery, patience will need to be a virtue. It's been highly variable for the 5 orders I've made in total, but none were super fast, that's for sure. It's the ONLY thing I've found that VKB did a bit better - I ordered one of my Gunfighters on a Thursday night at 11pm, and got it the next Tuesday at 9am. That's not going to happen with Virpil due to both their shipping method (blah) and their processing time - and how busy they are right now . That said, the wait is WELL worth it. Just be prepared for it, and don't fuss too much about it. Most likely within 7 business days you'll order will ship. After that, it's done to the gods and the universal mail/whatever they use truly effing sucks IMO, but it's what they and we are stuck with.

Thanks for your response. I figured their mechanism would be better then TM’s. I was looking for something with a better action all around and I don’t think I’ll be disappointed. As far as delivery goes I was more curious then anxious. Thanks again for answering my questions.

Would you mind telling me what or if you got hit with any additional fees from Canada Customs besides tax? I’m just about to pull the trigger on one of these. Thanks.

Mine is on the way also. Tracking says it should be here Tuesday 9/3. If that’s true then it would be 2 weeks exactly, but Monday is a holiday here in the US so I don’t know if they took that into consideration when they said delivery is scheduled for 9/3.

That sucks you have to pay an additional fee on top of the cost plus shipping from Lithuania

Welcome to Canada. The only place where you get taxed on your tax! This place is sucks sometimes

I live in Central European country. I haven't bought anything from outside European Union for quite a while, thus I do not know exact actual rules, but before once you bought something more expensive than some low threshold, you had to pay tax and also customs duty that was calculated if I remember it correctly from the price of the thing plus tax plus transport fee.

So do not think that you live in the only state of the world that do its best to take money out of your pocket in any way possible

:megalol:

I was thinking about buying Virpil produts, but when you make your choice, go to the shopping cart, add your country of origin and it immediately adds 20% tax to the previously acceptable price, it is very very discouraging.

P.S. WarBRD base would cost me 227€ shipping and tax included. As it is EU sho I hope than there is no customs fee. Wonder how much you have to pay in Canada

I got mine about 6 weeks ago. I ordered it after my warthog base developed the usual issues after a 3 years of use. The base is great! I use a 10 cm extension and the Hornet stick. I did not replace the cams just some fine tuning of the spring tension. My flying is much more precise and the travel of the stick is almost exactly like in the real hornet when using VR. I can not feel the center detent with the 10 cm extension. With the warthog base I was still able to feel it slightly.

I have been trying to make my mind up regarding Virpil or VKB. The other thread on here discussing a warning about Virpil triggers and customer support made me pause on ordering one. I also watched a video regarding the difference of the quality inside the Virpil stick compared to the VKB. I believe this was not the new CM2 stick though so I don't know what changes were made inside.

VKB is out of stock again in North America so I'm back to still considering Virpil. It's always good to hear from people who own the hardware and using it in the same simulations to get a good feeling about buying. It just goes to show how much power a forum thread can have when you pause, and reconsider buying something after reading about it in a forum though. It's a tough decision when you can't just drive a few blocks back to the store you bought it from.

Will I've had the T50 grip, WarBRD grip, T50 CM2 grip, T50 throttle, T50 CM Throttle, 2 WarBRD bases (T50 CM2 base on its way) and haven't had a problem with anything as of yet. If I ever do, with the amount of $$ I have spent at virpil, I should hope I get to notch customer service if ever needed.

Received my CM2 base today. 2 weeks exactly form ordering to delivery. Not too bad. Connected it but none of my F/A-18C buttons are working. Need to fiddle with it a little more. Also there seems to be too much flex in the VPC short mount. Gonna see if I can connect it to my Monstertech mount.

EDIT: Got the buttons sorted. Now just need to fine tune the axes.

Today received my TM F/A 18 grip, mounted on CM2 base ... such a great combination! Already love the grip.

After setting up the Virpil configuration tool ( base and grip ), saved profile etc. the buttons worked regular but the axis were off and could not properly calibrated. Also in Windows the calibration was broken.

A firmware update in the Virpil tool fixed it, now it´s fine.

Hey Voight. Thanks this is exactly why I bought the CM2 base. I wanted to mount the F18 stick on it. I tried putting it on the WarBRD base but I found the WarBRD base just too floppy for such a heavy stick. How do you find the CM2 base for the F18 stick? Is it solid?

Posted (edited)

I just use it for approx 2 hours, so just could give a first impression, which is very good so far.

I don´t have the CM2 springs set too tight, but it feels very good. Also I got a 50mm extension from Virpil which is rock solid on the CM2 base, but the connection between the F/A 18 grip and extension is not as solid as I would expect it to be... means when I turn the grip on its z-axis it still could move a bit, despite the thread of the TM grip could not be tighten more on the extension... hmmm, maybe it needs to be unscrewed and screwed again to avoid any movement on the z-axis. Maybe the thread of the 50mm extension is a tiny bit too short for the screw of the Thrustmaster grip?

The CM2 base is really good for heavy grips and/or extensions. The centering of the grip + extension is smooth and precisely to the point, even the springs are not set too tight.

Having used this setup for a couple of days I’ve decided I don’t like the Virpil desk mount. This is the short version 2 which is angled away from the desk. First, it sticks out too far due to it being angled. Second, it flexes too much for my liking. As I’m moving the stick towards full deflection left or right the base and mount moves or flexes. I’m guessing this is because of the distance the mount sticks out from the desk and the fact the resistance gets stronger as It reaches full deflection. I ended up buying the bracket (at a ridiculous cost) from Monstertech to mount the base to my Monstertech desk mount. I’m sure this will solve both issues for me. I’ll most likely put the Virpil mount up for sale to recoup some of the cost of the bracket.

You are not the first person to complain that the V2 deskmounts move you too far out from the desk

I have a V1 virpil mount and would loved to have bought a second one, but they no longer make them :(

Same here. Why would they stop producing that design for the V2.

The center of the joystick is almost 3 inches farther back then my Monstertech. Doesn't seem like a lot, but to me it is.

Well, 3 weeks to the day since I ordered them and my MongoosT50 and WarBRD base just arrived. Pulled everything out of the nicely packaged box and put it together. Feels great just testing it in my hand. Now comes software installation and setup. Maybe somebody will have some advice before I start mucking things up..lol. Very excited. It feels so much better than my X55 I’ve been using for the last 4 or more years.

Update - I found some useful videos on setup and I’ve already been up and running in DCS. This thing feels fantastic! Everything from the feel in your hand to how precise it feels. I might need to order a throttle now.
