BTTW-DratsaB Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 That doesn't look too good for the engines. Do they have a flap that covers them somewhat for such landings? Would that plane be able to take off again soon after landing or would it need some tlc first? (Given that it's Russian my guess is they could put it back up within a few minutes :) ) Nice photo anyway, ty! Notice the inlets open at the top of the engine. :) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

nscode Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 F-15 alert, not mine...his :D Here's a MiG-21 alert.. we could start a collection ;) 2 Never forget that World War III was not Cold for most of us.
mvsgas Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 (edited) I think I ask this before... Anyway, do all Russian designed fighters require ground power to start? nscode Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 AFAIK they do not, it's just the recommended way. 1 Never forget that World War III was not Cold for most of us.

Boberro Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 An amazing picture released by Lockheed Martin: The second F-35B short takeoff/vertical landing jet, BF-2, descends to a vertical landing on 12 January 2011 at NAS Patuxent River, Maryland. Marine Lt. Col. Fred Schenk piloted the aircraft during the flight, which was the eighty-second for the aircraft. Magnificent photo, in the firsts seconds I thought it is quite similar to PakFA (shape and perspective). Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D ಠ_ಠ ツ
aaron886 Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 I'm not seeing much similarity to the PAK FA. ;) On another note... wow, I didn't know the F-35 had time-warping capability! This photo was taken on the.... 12th of January? :D
PAKFA Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 I always liked the MiG aircraft, the MiG-29 and MiG-23 are my favorite MiGs, the MiG-25, MiG-31 are okay and the MiG-1.44 it had the potential to become one of my favorite jets, it is sad to see a dynasty has almost disappeared, the mighty MiG has been eclipsed by Sukhoi, of course i like the Su-27 and Su-24, by the way the Su-24 is one of my favorite aircraft but is sad MiG has virtually disappeared

mvsgas Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 No, however every 5th engine start should be performed with external APU support. How come? Is this on a specific aircraft? zakobi Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Why is it that the area around Vegas is so interesting for testing and exercises? Isn't there a problem with dust or sand, or perhaps there isn't much of that?
mvsgas Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 (edited) You still get dust and sand but when the base and military ranges were created there was nothing out there. No mayor cities nor big populated areas. Now a day, the installations/facilities are there so it make the location more convenient/cost effective and the weather is far more predictable...plus Vegas is right there, why move? :D My guess anyway. Alaska has a far bigger range but obviously is harder to exercise /train there. Joint Pacific Alaskan Range Complex (JPARC) lies among rivers, mountains, and forests stretching 67,000 miles across the sparsely-populated areas of the Alaska interior and stretches another 44,000 miles into the Gulf of Alaska. The Alaska military ranges, AFAIK, are almost halt the size of Nevada.
