RIPTIDE Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 Look up some stories about the guy, he's a damn legend. I did. Check it: ""Pull on the pole till the rivets pop and the RIO pukes! No kill like a guns kill! A Lima up the tailpipe is too good for any Gomer! Close with the miserable Commie [deleted] and put a few rounds of twenty-twenty-mike-mike through his canopy! If he hits the silk, gun his ass while he swings!" ^^ awesome. :D http://homepage.eircom.net/~frontacsb/strike/hoser.html [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

Vekkinho Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 Looks pretty complicated! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
aaron886 Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 ... it's a modern turbofan. Of course it's complicated. :smilewink: What bugs me is the really stubby petals... looks like a damn J-79. Isn't that old-school design? Really though the 20k lbf wet thrust of the M88-X should be a good improvement. (...on the current 17k.) 8.5:1 TWR wet is only "so-so" for this latest generation of engines. The M88-X should bump it up to around 10:1, which would be impressive indeed. (EJ200 and F414 are around 9:1.)
Viper101 Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 (edited) This picture makes me happy. Not only cause it is one of my favorite tomcats but because they left it alone after decommission. Numerous F-14 static's keep getting repainted including changing pilots names and it just upsets me. Why can't they just stick to the original paint that the jet had when it was retired (if it was a colored jet), as well as the pilots who flew it last. combatace Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 Looks pretty complicated! Its the feed backs and nozzle that makes it look more complicated other wise its simpler than a four-stroke engine. aaron886 Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 Its the feed backs and nozzle that makes it look more complicated other wise its simpler than a four-stroke engine. Mechanically maybe, but not principally or with regard to construction. (Much more difficult to design and build, even if fewer moving parts.)
nscode Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 It can be really simple. But then it just sux lots of fuel for little thrust.. and might just quit on you on some conditions.. Soooo... not that usefull :) Never forget that World War III was not Cold for most of us.
combatace Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 Mechanically maybe, but not principally or with regard to construction. (Much more difficult to design and build, even if fewer moving parts.) What I think is except designing it nothing is complicated because its construction is also simple. But what I think is we should let go this discussion over her because I think this is a wrong thread for it. aaron886 Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 The precision required in metallurgy and machining is much higher. Fact.
combatace Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 You are getting desperate to prove yourself right mate. The person said it *looks* complicated and believe me what you said can't be determined with naked eyes. aaron886 Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 No I'm just not accepting that it's "nothing complicated" as you've said. (That's quite ridiculous.)

aaron886 Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 Now I really want to know why the top of the rotor hub on that Rooivalk is the way it is.
AlphaOneSix Posted September 4, 2011 Posted September 4, 2011 Looks basically like a Puma rotor head with an air data sensor on top.

Pilotasso Posted September 4, 2011 Posted September 4, 2011 (edited) Ah! Actually I dont, though I did met another female from the same division, another one is visible on the video at 1:18 and a female mechanic I also know at 3:06 (probably the most attractive chick there). I know alot of mechanic bastiges in that video I wonder how I never got wind of this video before. Its old too, over 2 years. Edited September 4, 2011 by Pilotasso .
