As for the avalanche, I dont think so,If you look closely, at 1:19 you can see the wire breakage and short circuit.

According to news I saw few days ago, the avalanche was intentional, and initiating a controlled avalanche was the sole purpose of firing that gun.

It didn't worked out the way they expected :D

Only thing cool in it is the temperature. They laugh they bottoms off while watching the snow destroying anything including structures and power lines in its path right into their direction.

They do that in Alaska every year. They do it to prevent a bigger one happening. It's pretty amazing seeing it done, even if it's just on T.V.

We're doing the same in Switzerland just with dynamite and not artillery cannoncs^^

Most of the time it's done by throwing the explosives out of a helicopter but there are alos a few gun-like machines around in the bigger ski-arenas (like Zermatt if you know it).
