I doubt any country would be crazy enough to enter the black sea with a carrier in times of conflict. Treaty or No treaty.

I am not so sure about this.

If you can get enemy submarines out of the Black Sea with a wall of sea mines setup together with all kind of fixed setup

of electronic detection walls under water.

Above sea level Cruisers like the Moscow will deal with threats by using the onboard special S-400 modified systems

and protect the Kuz in the best possible way.

.

At open sea I don’t see how the Kuz can protect himself against the lets say nowadays German type U212/214 wolf packs which are extremely quiet and virtually undetectable

These latest submarines are bringing the naval cold war era tactics up for discussion where open sea was preferred.

The Russians did have developed a 'new' (by 1998) hypersonic antimissile missile, weighing 340 kg and capable of destroying all present day and possible future antiship missiles by directly hitting it (direct interception, not by proximity fuse), ofcourse it's only mentioned by some Fakel representative in an interview. It's called 9M96, and part of the S-400 system, it's small range is because it's designed to intercept the warhead of ballistic missiles and thanks to the gas dynamic vents it can maneuver faster than with conventional aerodynamic controls.

It's the 4 smaller tubes together with 3 big ones on the S-300PMU2 system, although a 16 tube launch vehicle is possible. So you have over 120km range against aircraft and lots of missile to fire, combine that with upgraded missiles, and you have a significantly better antimissiles system than anything before.

Yes, but I was wildly dreaming about this breathtaking scenario, "operation hajduk-it!". Due to global warming, the icecap protecting a secret cave on Maykop mountain has melted away. In the cave is a whole load of top secret R-27AE missiles. Under cover from Ka-50's, Russian commando's will secure the load and transport it to the black sea shore.

To cover this action up, an Su-25T will launch a Raduga kilter missile towards Georgian radar installations, while Putin is just fishing in some lake to distract the media.

In a bold move, the Kuznetsov slips through the Bosporus (someone must have bribed the Turks big time) to recover the valuable missiles. The idea is that once the Su-33's are armed with this ueber-missile, the Kuznetsov carrier group becomes virtually invincible, certainly now that Russian farmers have been armed with ED fireworks that can lure any amraam missile away.

Are you saying that I won't be able to play this realistic scenario? Are you one of those global warming sceptics?

The Kuznetsov can pass the Bosporus with no argument, it's a heavy aviation cruiser, it's main role sits in those big tubes under the deck ;) It's tha same thing with the Wasp class with the US, they're not carriers, but troop landing ships, yet there are planes and choppers taking off from it... The Ulyanovsk would have become the only modern Soviet aircraft carrier, the Kuz is big, but not a true carrier, more of a beefed up Ticonderoga cruiser minus the big guns.

Last I understood, the Kuznetsov (was at the time anyways) was termed a "heavy aviation cruiser"...

Correct

"Admiral Flota Sovetskogo Soyuza Kuznetsov is a Heavy Aircraft Carrying Cruiser (TAVKR)"

IIRC, the Sovremenny-class destroyers were the most capable AAW assets in the Russian Navy (with the exception of maybe the Kirov battlecruiser). The Moscow/Slava-class has several limitations that prevent it from effectively engaging multi-directional inbound threats - in fact, it only has one tracking radar for the Rif system (Volna phased array, I think), that allows it to simultaneously engage only 6 targets incoming from a particular direction (+/- 45 degrees, I think, though I might be mistaken). Which doesn't really compare favorably to the Ticonderoga-class cruisers, with AEGIS, which has 4 separate SPG-62 illumination radars for terminal guidance and the SPY-1 PESA for mid-course guidance: working the numbers game, that's 8 missiles being guided in the end-game and over 20 missiles in mid-course flight, directed at up to 4 different directions.

Guy Guys... why are you all going into detail about all this real world stuff... does it really matter??

If you take the ship out of the game you will not be firing the staff that crews the ship… nor will

giving all of this detail about treaties and hull classification keeping the ship in the game and put

bread on their tables… There are no people on the ship!! But they if there were… they would appreciate

your support! LOL!

It’s just a 3D model!! A model most of you like and what to keep…

You all take your gaming seriously ... Gosh... the level of detail you all put into this stuff is amazing...

Your Real Lives must be super organized!! :)

Again, there are some smart people here on these boards with amazing amounts of knowledge!!

Good Stuff!

My mission is to fly, fight, and win. o-:|:-o What I do is sometimes get a tin of soup, heat it up, poach an egg in it, serve that with a pork pie sausage roll.

If your role in a red flag exercise is to protect or to destroy the carrier then you can get or lose for example about 5000 points.

Of course it is a big deal… :D
