williehayesjr Posted October 6, 2019 Posted October 6, 2019 Hello my brothers and sisters; I turn to you once again (thanks for getting me up and running with VR). I just got the Odyssey Plus last week. The VR is outstanding (I can not believe what VR has done for DCS). However, it may not be worth the trouble; here is why: Every time I am finish playing DCS, I have to re-booth to get the head set to work again. Moreover, I get this message that the head set is asleep--and it won't wake up. Sometimes, even before I complete the Start-up procedure (I love this process), the Headset cuts off and I have to re-boot. To top it off, I must disconnect the HDMI in order to shut down the headset. The $299.00 price was way too good to be true. But, could any of you tell me of another VR headset to buy that is comparable, in as many ways as the Odyssey Plus and not cost more than $500.00 and solves the problems I am having? I still have two weeks to return it. If there isn't Windows software, presently in the works, to fix all of these small, but annoying problems, I am going to send this one back. Comments please!
dburne Posted October 6, 2019 Posted October 6, 2019 Rift S is a nice kit and very much plug and play, not much faffing about with it. Not as high resolution as Reverb, but should be little better than what you have. No need for Steam VR or WMR , native Oculus software works quite well. Couple of weaknesses: Poor built in audio strap. If you like decent audio, you will be disappointed with this. Easily fixed with headphones or earbuds. I prefer earbuds so working well for me. Headphones you would just need to be sure and get ones that will fit over the Halo strap. Thankfully the Rift S includes a jack for this. Mic - some included myself experienced cut outs with the mic, very annoying. Does not seem to be a large prevalent problem though. I got an inexpensive desktop USB mic to take care of that for me. Other than this it is a great device. Been using mine daily since getting it in May. williehayesjr Posted October 6, 2019 Author Posted October 6, 2019 Thanks dburne, but I am hooked on the Odyssey,s resolution, and no screen door effect. What else would you recommend?

dburne Posted October 6, 2019 Posted October 6, 2019 Thanks dburne, but I am hooked on the Odyssey,s resolution, and no screen door effect. What else would you recommend? Probably Reverb, lot of folks happy with it - however little more I think than your target price. jvanhoog Posted October 6, 2019 Posted October 6, 2019 @williehayesjr, I have the oddysey plus and don't have any of the issues you mentioned, it just works great. I however did have to research some of the probs, but they are all fixable and I am very happy with it. One big thing was to put a bit of electrical tape over the sensor between the lenses. Hope you solve your problems because I sure can't go back to flat screens after having vr.
Svsmokey Posted October 6, 2019 Posted October 6, 2019 This post speaks of a workaround for at least the hdmi part of the problem . You can read the previous posts to put it in context . https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=4023215&postcount=454 Note that the Reverb , being a wmr headset , will likely mirror the problems you are experiencing . Many say the effective resolution of the Rift S is better than the Odyssey . Just a little food for thought... 9700k @ stock , Aorus Pro Z390 wifi , 32gb 3200 mhz CL16 , 1tb EVO 970 , MSI RX 6800XT Gaming X TRIO , Seasonic Prime 850w Gold , Coolermaster H500m , Noctua NH-D15S , CH Pro throttle and T50CM2/WarBrD base on Foxxmounts , CH pedals , Reverb G2v2

PhiMX Posted October 7, 2019 Posted October 7, 2019 I am not familiar with your history with the Odyssey+, but have you considered making a clean new windows installation and set up just what you only need, so WMR obviously, Steam, Steam VR, DCS and your video and hotas drivers. For me the oddyssey+ works fine, none such problems in 3 months of owning it and only recently the same kind of problems started popping up.. error 1-4: HDMI not connected, USB 3.0 Not connected and so on. Turned out to be the Nvidia video card driver that caused the issues. Fixed it, was fine for a couple of days, until it went rogue again... a complete clean install got me finally rid of the "hardware" trouble. Tomorrow I will be switching to AMD graphics.. RX5700XT is coming, I hope to never see such trouble again.
Captain Spears Posted October 8, 2019 Posted October 8, 2019 It's a known issue with due to a recent Win10 update. Same thing happens to me and can be fixed by rebooting Windows Explorer. Got to Task Manager and find it there :)
PhiMX Posted October 8, 2019 Posted October 8, 2019 You mean the pesky HDMI cable not connected problem? Damn, that makes sense why the new install got me rid of the problem. I haven´t updated windows since, so I better not do it. Thanks for sharing the information!

dburne Posted October 8, 2019 Posted October 8, 2019 As the owner of both I have to agree, Rift S is crisper. Yeah it is not always about pure resolution alone. Thick8 Posted October 8, 2019 Posted October 8, 2019 Your issues are not common. This definitely sounds like a driver issue. I would suggest you post your issues on the WMR Reddit page to reach a wider audience.
