DerekSpeare
Hi, I had the idea last night to put the jet into CAT3 to help make it easier (for me) to have better granular control for air-to-air refueling. While I know it's not SOP/NATOPS approved, I approved it for testing (for myself) and think that perhaps it makes a bit of a difference. And yes, I do know that enabling the refueling switch also tells the FLCS to make it easier to do. Maybe it's a placebo, but if it helps you to do this, great! :smartass: Post your results, too! VampireNZ
Just placebo I am afraid Derek. Cat III only reduces maximum AOA to 16°-18° from 25°, reduces maximum roll rate command by 40%, and maximum rudder deflection. So unless you are doing some pretty extreme AAR using the maximum control surface limits...then it won't make any difference. But hey if it works for you then roll with it. Also as you mention - opening the AAR door below 400 knots will put the FLCS into takeoff and landing gains setting (pitch rate command till 10° AOA then blended, and roll rate limiting). Edit: Yes this change is noticeable in DCS, at least if using the FSSB force sensing base. DerekSpeare
I'm going to get some chicken bones soaked in jet fuel and keep them in a boodoo-hoodoo hex bag, too...anything to make A2ARF easier! Now that @Vampire mentions it, I do remember that CAT3 limits certain characteristics but not enough to have the effect I thought. bbrz
Opening the refueling door puts FBW in lower gains anyways. Furthermore FLCS takeoff and landing gain disables the CATI/III function, hence no difference when switching. i7-7700K 4.2GHz, 16GB, GTX 1070
