I know this is a passive vs active comparison, but is there really ANY difference that I would notice in performance, etc?

Thing is , the majority of us don't have the ideal lighting conditions needed for the trackhat clip to work properly . Windows , sun position and room lighting in front of the camera (including well to the side if far enough from the camera) all detract from its performance . The pro-clip , as Buzz said , works much better for most , and is well worth the extra $35 or so .

Follow up on clip vs pro. There is definitely a difference in tracking; I experienced very limited movement when looking at the side panels in the cockpit when using the hat clip, and absolutely no issues when using the pro clip. I was in the F16 and couldn't look down/back to set nav without TrackIR freaking out, when I was wearing the hat clip.
