obious Posted November 27, 2019 Posted November 27, 2019 Hi All, Bit stuck on trying to work out what the procedure is for inputting coords into JDAM. I have two GBU31s on my Hornet, each on a different pylon but cannot manage to get them to hit separate targets that have been waypoint designated from the mission planner (that are close to each other). Steps 1) Select A/G mode 2) Select JDAM from SMS 3) Select JDM DSPLY 4) Select both JDAM under QTY 5) Select MSN 6) Select PP1 7) Waypoint designate from HSI 8) STEP for additional JDAM 9) Select next waypoint and designate again Observe that the first waypoint designation has been overwritten. I also think that PP mode cannot be used as its impossible to enter coords for it? I assume I'm doing something wrong? Robin_Hood Posted November 27, 2019 Posted November 27, 2019 PP works only with manual coordinates input (and with data cartridge input when it's available), you cannot transfer coordinates from a waypoint or designated target. Just choose UFC in the MSN page, and enter lat long (in dd°mm'ss.ss") and altitude. Only the TOO mode can use designated target from sensors (waypoint, FLIR, AG radar...) to create a JDAM target. 2nd French Fighter Squadron
obious Posted November 27, 2019 Author Posted November 27, 2019 That’s makes sense but surely that means that the waypoints entered in the mission planner would feed in the Hornet via the data cartridge? Cytarabine Posted November 28, 2019 Posted November 28, 2019 That’s makes sense but surely that means that the waypoints entered in the mission planner would feed in the Hornet via the data cartridge? Not how it works - implicitly a target need not have a waypoint, particularly if it is a target which you are not going to go terribly near - for example if you are using a JSOW to strike from beyond SAM range. Equally a waypoint may not be specific enough for a target location. TOO mode is basically taking data from any targeting system (be it the navigation system, TPOD, HUD/JHMCS or ground radar) and forwarding it to the weapon which is then deployed.
Robin_Hood Posted November 29, 2019 Posted November 29, 2019 You could also have one waypoint in the general target area, and several pre-planned coordinates for individual DMPIs. The capability to enter pre-planned targets via the mission planner or similar and have them transfered via data cartridge will come later, when ED rolls out the MDC that is in development. 2nd French Fighter Squadron
Rhinozherous Posted July 7, 2023 Posted July 7, 2023 (edited) Still no easy way to designate a tgt from Waypoint (as workaround for missing DTC)... Would be nice to have a more easy way other than entering it manually. I think something like a DCS DTC is not away "two weeks" - It is more like "two years" or centurys. Tholozor Posted July 7, 2023 Posted July 7, 2023 Using the DTC would only apply to PP targets. You can still designate a waypoint with TOO.
