Well, it seems that finally my days with Windows 8.1 are over :( ... the latest Oculus Update has rendered my VR setup unusable .. everytime I try to use the Rift, I get this error:

The hardware is OK, as attested by all the green icons, but it will not run. I've tried already a repair and a reinstall of the Oculus software, but no go :(

I've also found that I'm not the only user with this problem:

... the common denominator seems to be that we are all still clinging to Windows 8.1

So, I have no other option than to install Windows 10, which I've tried in the past and didnt like its unsteady performance .. so, rather than flying DCS I will be forced to install Windows 10 this week-end ..

Anyone else here is using the same setup (Windows 8.1 plus Oculus Rift) ?

It ain't so bad, I like Windows 10 way more than I did 8.1.

Why anyone would want to stay on W8 over W10 is beyond me.

:) I used Windows 10 for a few months, so I view this from the other side .. why would anyone want to use a spyware infested Win 10, rather than the much less buggy and quite smoother performing Windows 8.1 ?

The ONLY reason someone should stay on W7 or W8 is because of deprecated hardware drivers (laptops) that W10 has already or will break compatibility. Other than that, until someone files a class action lawsuit against Microsoft's forced automatic updates (similar to Apple), living with their "spyware" is the only way forward because everything older is no longer supported by anything.

Similar to Apple? ... they have never forced an update on me .. my 2010 iMac is still running OSX High Sierra happily ... comparing it to Windows is almost an insult :D

Among other shady things by Apple, I was referring to the Iphone performance decline on newer OS's and their "because battery degradation" excuse.

OK, I misunderstood you, since we were talking about Windows

... anyway, I'm an iPhone user and can tell you that the iOS update is also completely voluntary, but if you do upgrade, then you can't later on change your mind and downgrade to a prior version ... that's why I never upgrade to new releases until a good while later.
