Aeroscout Posted November 12, 2007 Posted November 12, 2007 Yes, yes, i know recording with fraps will lower your FPS, but I'm getting it in the teens mostly and sometimes in the single digits! This is ridiculous! It's never been this bad before. In the same mission i'm recording, I get frame rates sometimes in the hundreds if fraps is not recording! (as there are only 2 planes flying.) as for slowing down the sim... i'm working with the unregistered version, and thus will have reduced my recording time to just 15 seconds. any ideas? DCS Wishlist: 1) FIX THE DAMN RIVERS!!! 2) Spherical or cylindrical panorama view projection. 3) Enhanced input options (action upon button release, etc). 4) Aircraft flight parameter dump upon exit (stick posn, attitude, rates, accel, control volume, control-surface positions, SAS bias, etc). 5) ADS-33 maneuver courses as static objects. 6) Exposed API or exports of trim position and stick force for custom controllers. 7) Select auto multiple audio devices
SuperKungFu Posted November 12, 2007 Posted November 12, 2007 You could do what I do since our systems are really similar Since I'm running on a widescreen, there was no way I was going to record in 1900x1200 otherwise the fps would be in the single digits. So I Reduce the resolution to about 1280x1024 and ran it in window mode, I then set it up in fraps to record in half size thus giving me a resolution of 640x512 which is like the standard resolution for most films. Or you can reduce lock on to 640x512 and just record in that size, I dunno which has a better fps, I just record in 1280 because I want to see what am I recording. The other option is reducing the speed, but it sounds like that didn't really work out for you. Or you can do a combo and reduce the speed and resolution and see how that works out. 1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
ED Team Glowing_Amraam Posted November 12, 2007 ED Team Posted November 12, 2007 Turn OFF Anti Aliasing when recording. Should help (unless you're lucky, and fraps can actually handle AA...) 1 https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCgJRhtnqA-67pKmQ3A2GsgA ED youtube channel https://www.facebook.com/glowingamraam My facebook page
Aeroscout Posted November 12, 2007 Author Posted November 12, 2007 Thanks, I ended up turning down the speed... But windows movie maker is lagging quite a but trying to both speed up the clip and render a transition. @superkungfu: I would like to turn down the res, but then that "fraps.com" thing gets quite big. Thanks for the help. i think i'm going to need the full, registered version for my next film. SuperKungFu Posted November 12, 2007 Posted November 12, 2007 Ah well, yea the full registered version won't have the fraps.com thing lol [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Boberro Posted November 13, 2007 Posted November 13, 2007 I recommend GameCam, IMo is big better than Fraps, and you have real-time preview. Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D ಠ_ಠ ツ
Aeroscout Posted November 13, 2007 Author Posted November 13, 2007 It's not vista compatible... Aeroscout Posted November 18, 2007 Author Posted November 18, 2007 Sorry guys, but i have to revive this thread. I got the registered version, but still, even with turning down the res to half, i still average about 9fps. This is ridiculous! There was one time where i could record at about 30Fps, but I can't anymore. What more, what i did record (at half speed) could not be imported into into WMM. (not getting vegas 'till x-mas) Any ideas? If it comes down to this, I may just re-install and see if that helps. The_GOZR Posted November 18, 2007 Posted November 18, 2007 same problem here i wonder if this has to do with the duo core.. try to make the fraps run with the second cpu only.
SuperKungFu Posted November 18, 2007 Posted November 18, 2007 I'm running on duo core and I have no problems recording. Maybe its a vista thing since it uses up a lot more ram. My brother and I have similar specs, (he's running on vista and I'm on xp) but when it comes to gaming, there's a big difference. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Aeroscout Posted November 19, 2007 Author Posted November 19, 2007 Gwad! I hate vista:crazy:! I think I'll be downgrading (upgrading?)to XP anyway, so... ya. thanks for the help. I think I'll have to put "FlankingEagles" (my movie) on hold.:( DCS Wishlist: 1) FIX THE DAMN RIVERS!!! 2) Spherical or cylindrical panorama view projection. 3) Enhanced input options (action upon button release, etc). 4) Aircraft flight parameter dump upon exit (stick posn, attitude, rates, accel, control volume, control-surface positions, SAS bias, etc). 5) ADS-33 maneuver courses as static objects. 6) Exposed API or exports of trim position and stick force for custom controllers. 7) Select auto multiple audio devices
Aeroscout Posted November 19, 2007 Author Posted November 19, 2007 Well, i'll be trying FSX, which should work better. (better vista compatibility) It's going to have both in game and real life footage that I have. Should be ready by X-mas. maybe...:music_whistling: DCS Wishlist: 1) FIX THE DAMN RIVERS!!! 2) Spherical or cylindrical panorama view projection. 3) Enhanced input options (action upon button release, etc). 4) Aircraft flight parameter dump upon exit (stick posn, attitude, rates, accel, control volume, control-surface positions, SAS bias, etc). 5) ADS-33 maneuver courses as static objects. 6) Exposed API or exports of trim position and stick force for custom controllers. 7) Select auto multiple audio devices
S77th-GOYA Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 Don't count on FSX performing better with Vista than XP. A very few are reporting good performance but the vast majority see a performance hit. Maybe if you had 3-4 Gb of RAM, you might be OK with Vista. But maybe you'll be one of the lucky ones.
Aeroscout Posted November 19, 2007 Author Posted November 19, 2007 All the more reason to convert back to XP :). What I'm saying though is that hopefully Fraps will work better. Gunja Posted March 8, 2008 Posted March 8, 2008 did you solve that problem? i'm on xp and as soon as i start recording with fraps, frames drop to 7-9 :( even in the main menu, when fps show ~500, when i press record they drop to 9 e6600 7950x2 2gb ram i use fraps a long time and have never seen this problem except in lockon. sup with LO and fraps?
Gunja Posted March 10, 2008 Posted March 10, 2008 Looks like the ONLY way (that i know of) to record with fraps is this And also, for fraps, slow the game down once (ALT-A slows down - CTRL-A speeds up - SHIFT-A returns to normal speed) http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=310652&postcount=1 that means speeding it up later in editor of your choice, and that means no sound from those recordings can be used.
