well, I saw all the new ryzen rigs and 9900k or 8700k and all... but dcs is utilizing only (why the actual ****!?!??!) 2 cores. so why invest in a 2000$ rig whan an old onw will yield the same performance right?

anyone using this config and can help me out?

all and all for about 1100$

Short answer = NO.

Medium answer = Same money will get you a Ryzen 5 3600 and DDR4

Longer answer = You may be ok with a lower end HMD, What HMD do you plan on running? If you must stick with intel save up for a newer gen, otherwise ditch the old z97 mobo and DDR3, they suck. For the same money you can get into a Ryzen 5 3600, which will smoke the old 4790k.

I’m using a i5 3570k and it’s ok, but what you’re showing there is only 1 generation newer and is not worth $1000

Also you’re showing DDR3 ram which may or may not work with that motherboard, I’m pretty sure most 4th gen Intel use DDR4 ram

If you want cheap, go with an I5 6600k or maybe a Ryzen 3600k

The only way I’d go with a 4th gen I5 is of it was super cheap (I.e. almost free). Cause it sure won’t be worth anything if you try and sell it later when it doesn’t meet your expectations.

You have a lot of leeway with CPUs and mobos. Just make sure you stick with anything you can overclock to well over 4.0 GHz and you'll be fine. But, I'd really advise you to get a CPU and mobo that will use DD4 memory, so, 6th gen CPU or newer.

As for the graphics card, that GTX 1080 Ti should be great--very good card for DCS. Don't go with anything lower than that for VR though--it's *extremely* demanding.

9900k or 9900X ??

Both exist and are 2 totally different chips when it comes to chipset, K uses Z390 and X usues X299.

All Z97 chipsets use DDR3, there is no DDR4 with a 4790k Devil's Canyon platform or any other 4th gen Intel i-series CPU for what I know.

I'd take the 9900k if that is a valid config for your buddy. The 9900X is far more expensive so is the X299 motherboard if you compare 2 boards of equal goodies.

If you somehow can, go AMD and forget Intel.

Go with Ryzen.

Start with a Ryzen 5 3600 and a compatible motherboard. I went X570 but a B450 also works and the latest ones ship ready to work with the Ryzen 3000 series.

You can save quite a bit by forgoing the RGB and just get 16 to 32 Gigs of RAM. Get 16 to start and later on you can buy another 16 and pop it in.

Save money on the case and buy something less than $100

I bought a 1tb SSD but you could save there too by buying a small SSD for Windows and DCS and put the rest on an HDD.

Buy a power supply that's at least bronze rated, around the 650 Watt mark.

The Ryzen ships with a CPU cooler so you save money there too. As far as GPU goes, get what you can afford. I went 5700xt but a 5700 should do you fine.

Try different configurations on PC Parts Picker.

https://pcpartpicker.com/

They even have a lot of suggested builds for under your budget. It's best to stay brand agnostic and look at the costs and price/performance with objective benchmarks. People tend to be biased towards brands they've already purchased or think are cool or popular.

AMD is pretty hard to beat right now for bang for buck but go with what you can get the best price on in your area and what is actually in stock. Vendors scalp parts they are low on and know are popular.

The DCS engine likes fast single thread performance of the CPU. Get the fastest CPU/Mobo combo you can afford. Multiple cores come in handy for background programs like TrackIR, recording, streaming, and miscellaneous software apps.

i wish. the cheapest RAM that was 3600 for me here in Australia was RGB. to get CL16 in non RGB was another $150. ouch.

Shhhh...I like reading people making fun of RGB, they don't know you can just turn it off.

will this rig run dcs in vr well?

To my surprise, I liked the rgb ram I got, subtle. My red cooler fans, not so much. But it's cheaper with led than without. Shame the ram is so much bigger, that's more of an issue than the lights

Not here. RGB sticks are definitely more expensive than without.

3600 mhz isn't necessary either. Ryzen 5 3600 is optimized for 3200 mhz and the speed difference between 3600 and 3200 came down to less than 1% I read somewhere. Same with the latency. It isn't THAT important.

Nobody is making fun of RGB. I bought my RAM with RGB. I simply said RAM without RGB is cheaper. Comprehensive reading and all....

I like it myself as well. Chicks dig it too. It's like mood lighting.

I have mine going currently in Christmas colors. :D

I read the opposite. Unless you are comparing 3200 cl14 to 3600 cl18, in which case they are about on par.

3200 Cl 16 was about the same price as 3600 cl16 here, so I went with that. But yeah, from what I've read, Ryzen are the only country that can make a difference...I've never bothered stressing about timings in the past.

Shrugs. If I oc it, I'll let people know outcome :)

I'm running 32 gigs of 3200 RAM with a latency of 15 and it runs DCS with ease. Going higher is obviously better but you're getting very little extra horsepower for the money spent.

Sorry, I edited my post while you were replying. For me it was essentially the same price.
