Hello everyone and happy holidays. I just got back in to SIM'S after years of family commitments and work. I just got the a Warthog HOTAS. Wow a lot have change. Back in the day we flying Janes F/A18. Before I took a break I was doing a lot of Falcon BMS. Anyway for those who fly multiple aircraft do you setup your HOTAS almost identical for both F18 and 16 accept for a few settings or do completely new profile for each aircraft? I purchased the F/A 18c and will be purchasing the F16 and A10 in the future. I may add F14.

You can custimoze your setup for every module under Options/Controls. You will probably need it, because those aircrafts have different HOTAS, functions, buttons and switches.

I personally try to imitate the particular HOTAS setup of each aircraft as much as possible. The different HOTAS controls are usually indispensable in operating the aircraft efficiently. If I have any spare buttons, I might assign them to other stuff. Also adds to the immersion, in my opinion, since different aircraft feel indeed more different, since they don't have the same control setups. As for the switches on the throttle, I'll use these for things that make more sense for me to have easy/quick access to.

For example, the F-18 on the Warthog stick will leave a few spare buttons that you can use for zoom or something like that. On the throttle, you'll also have a couple of spare buttons. I bound things like the Dispenser mode 3-position switch, gear, flaps, master arm, refueling probe and HUD declutter on the throttle switches.

The A-10C will use all of the buttons on the stick and throttle and I'll use my mouse thumb buttons for zoom (I don't use zoom much anyway). Most of the switches mirror their true counterparts, but I changed some of them to more commonly used functions.

To the extent feasible, I try to use the same buttons for the same functions in each aircraft. Makes jumping between aircraft, such as F/A-18C and F-16C, much easier. Of course this makes the HOTAS somewhat unrealistic and 100% congruency is impossible, but not many real fighter pilots maintain currency in more than one aircraft type at a time.

Same. Most of my time has been in the A-10C, so I try to mimic its general layout across modules as much as is possible. Obviously with some planes there are very few similarities, but every little bit helps.

Me too. I fly 90% the FA18 w/ TM WH throttle and a VKB stick. So I am already using an A-10 throttle to fly an FA18 which obviously isn't very realistic. I occasionally fly other planes so, for me, it's more important that if, I need to drop flaps for instance, it's the same switch no matter the plane.
