I used the setup-guide from Thud but that did not help. He is always talking of frametimes in the low teens. Well, if I have those I dont need ASW anyway. Because, then Ill have 80fps all the time. My frametimes are usually 20-25 fps, just that I stay below 25ms most of the time to get smoothing from ASW.

That was a misspell. I meant 20-25ms, but from the context I should have been understandable. I mostly have frametimes under 25ms so I get the full 40fps for ASW to do its job.

Anyway, I still dont think my CPU is the bottleneck, even though its not overclocked. I tried that once and a mild overclock to 4,7 on all core gave me a worse result than the standard clock. I think I needed to put in some more effort here to get it right.

I dont give too much anyway on clockspeeds, since 4,7 Ghz on a i7-4790K is way different (worse) than 4,7 (or 4,3 on all cores) on my CPU. But of course 5,0 on a I9 will be quite the same as 5,0 on my CPU, because DCS is using only 4 (some even say 2) cores anyway. Real multithreaded performance is of course another story when comparing i9 to i5 of the same generation.

Anyway, I think I gave myself the answer anyway. Either way a RTX2080Ti would not do much for me in my current situation.

Your CPU isn't a bottleneck, you could gain a very small amount of performance going with the newest top-notch processors but when using VR it really is the GPU which is the bottleneck, even with 2080 Ti. Let's be excited for how much gain Vulkan brings about.

For DCS you’re not much helped with a i9 instead of a i5 at the same clock.

I still think you should check the load on that single core when DCS-gaming.

It might be a eye opener.

Before my upgrade and with i7@4.7 +1080 I was limited by the CPU. Seing people writing that Pixeldensity only put load on the GPU, I know that for me I got a lot higher CPU load when using higher PD

About the overclock, I cant see that a proper overclock can not change things to the better.

The decision not to use overclocking is of course up to you.

Thanks Gunnars & Stuart for the clarification. I have a lot to learn.

On your processor, i doubt increasing your ram speed will have a significant impact in performance, given you are already running at 3000. I

If you were going Ryzan I would say go 3200, intel it’s nice to have but, frankly 3000 you could OC to 3200...

After recently going from 32GB of DDR4 2666 to 3866MHZ, I can categorically state that faster RAM won’t help at all.
