jimblue74 Posted January 2, 2020 Posted January 2, 2020 Hi, another questions. When I contact the JTAC to get information on the target which he then has to illuminate with the laser, the JTAC gives me various information, including the type of target, the distance, the coordinates, the laser code…. understand three voices. 1) Heading. Should be the direction, but compared to what? Compared to a particular waypoint? 2) Distance. Like above. Compared to what? 2) Coordinates. I have seen that we usually speak of coordinates such as N / S xx.xx.xx - W / E xx.xx.xx. However, in this case, the JTAC gives me the coordinates in a format that I don't know, like NB123456 (example). How do I read them? Maybe to set them as a waypoint… ..can they be translated into coordinates in the normal format?
parxuk Posted January 2, 2020 Posted January 2, 2020 jimblue I am not really knowledgable or expert enought to inform you, but I will say if you are new to DCS then you have a whole lot of learning to do (which is part of the fun!). There are hours worth of useful and informative youtube videos out there that you can reference for knowledge. I suggest you spend at least as much time watching those videos as attempting to play DCS at the moment so that you can get some base knowledge which will help you get so much more from the game. I can tell you that there is a mod available from the DCS user files section which will present the JTAC coordinates in a format that the Hornet can handle, but you will have to learn how to enter these coordinates and how to set the correct precision parameters in the HSI (probably wrong terminology). There is no way around it, expect to have to study your ass off and try and find the information. It is all out there. Darcwaynard Posted January 2, 2020 Posted January 2, 2020 As parxuk stated you should search in the user files section of the DCS site and get the mod for coordinates DD.MM.SS. Attack heading is relative to your own ship and the target. Eg: "make your attack heading" 090 means put the target at heading 090 before you roll in. Egress West: After weapons release head west and await further instructions. I highly recommend searching for the Fighter Pilot Podcast episode about FAC-A's. Lots of info in there that applies to JTAC ops in DCS and provides a bunch of context. Not to mention the guy has some awesome stories! Also, welcome to study sim life. Download the manuals, chucks guides and get reading! YouTube is a gold mine of information as well. Good hunting. _mu110_ Posted January 2, 2020 Posted January 2, 2020 The JTAC will read out N/A for the first three items of the 9 line brief if there is no initial point (IP) set up in the mission, if there is he will give you the name of the IP to reference as well as the bearing and distance to the target from there. Shameless self promotion ahead: the link in my signature will take you to my section of the user files where you can download the coordinate mod the other replies have mentioned. If you are new to DCS I would suggest also downloading and setting up a program called JSGME (not on the user files). It might be a bit of an annoyance to set up at first but it will makes installing all kinds of mods much easier as you go along. Check out my skins and mods on the User Files.
Razor18 Posted January 2, 2020 Posted January 2, 2020 You meant maybe OvGME? Guess JSGME is not supported any more...
_mu110_ Posted January 3, 2020 Posted January 3, 2020 You meant maybe OvGME? Guess JSGME is not supported any more... I've never actually tried it myself, JSGME has always worked great for me without any issues. But yeah if it's functionally superior I'd certainly recommend the OP go the OvGME route instead.
