Nvidia’s first 2020 driver update also improves VR game quality

We'll see.....

Alongside the frame rate limit, this driver also includes Variable Rate Super Sampling (VRSS). This improves image quality in VR games by separating shading rate and resolution to improve different parts of the frame that you’re focused on in VR.

VRSS is currently only available for around 20 games that have been tested by Nvidia.

I had a look through mine, and it appears Robo Recall is the only one I have that VRSS is available for. I thought Asgard's Wrath might be supported as it is so popular

but it is not either at this time.

Also note VRSS is only available with the Turing Cards (RTX).

Doubt we would see this anytime soon for DCS.

I might just try it out in Robo Recall in a few days just to see.

It is nice - and promising - to see Nvidia giving some love to VR.

Hopefully the will continue to test and add more games to the mix for this feature.

From the Nvidia Driver 441.87 Release Notes:

Variable Rate Super Sampling (VRSS) is a new technique to improve image quality in VR games. It

uses NVIDIA Variable Rate Shading (VRS), a key feature in NVIDIA’s Turing architecture, to

dynamically apply up to 8x supersampling to the center of the VR headset display, where the eye is

typically focused. It intelligently applies supersampling only when GPU headroom is available in

order to maintain the VR headset’s fixed FPS and ensure a smooth VR experience. Enable the

feature for over 20 supported VR games from the NVIDIA Control Panel->Manage 3D Settings-

>Variable Rate Super Sampling.

I downloaded the latest driver but to be honest, didn’t see anything new to adjust.

I really wish I understood this software crap...

I9 (5Ghz turbo)2080ti 64Gb 3200 ram. 3 drives. A sata 2tb storage and 2 M.2 drives. 1 is 1tb, 1 is 500gb.

Valve Index, Virpil t50 cm2 stick, t50 base and v3 throttle w mini stick. MFG crosswind pedals.

You will only see the VRSS option in a game profile that has been tested and approved by Nvidia, which currently is only around 20 games. I am sure they will be adding more as time goes on.

Nice to see some investment in VR but I ask myself why only Turing GPU ?

I have the feeling that these kind of features like it is the case for ray tracing, will become the arguments to sell new generation of GPU because it becomes hard to improve performances without crazy Watts and GPU size requirements.

Concerning the list of supported games, it’s look bullshit because customers are able to test their games by themself... Love the NVidia stuff but they give me the same bad feeling than a lot of GAFA that seems ti think that they always know better than their customers (i.e. the stupid forced update of our oculus, Apple bad design choices etc... :)

There are always other choices in all those things mentioned.
