Hey all,

I have been gone for about a year now and logged in today to give DCS a run on my rig. I am running the same rig as before but my temps are now maxing out on my 2600K at 88degC and a fan speed of 2200rpm. i didnt keep playing for fear of damaging the CPU.

did somethig change over the last year for CPU overhead in the game or is it just time for me to drop a new CPU fan into my HAF922 case?

Thanks for suggestions

Suggest you clean case, fans and heatsinks from dust.

remove CPU, clean and re-apply thermal paste.

This is free (other than paste if you need it), and may fix your issue.

Thing you might check is a broken fixation on the cooler. I had a friends computer doing weird stuff, after checking noticed that the CPU temp got up to a level that the computer crashed. Reason turned out to be a broken cooler fixation which made the cooler not entirely touch the CPU.

Make sure you check that everything is on stock overclocks and voltages as well. Thermal paste and TIM definitely drys out over time. You might have lost some of the thermal conductive properties. Let us know how it goes.

Sometimes, if the past is really old, it tends to stick&glue to the CPU. If you cannot lift the cooler EASILY off from the CPU, STOP PULLING and give it a little 1-2° twist to break it loose.

You can easily pull off the cooler and find your CPU on the underside of the cooler, force-pulled out of the socket with possible damage to the CPU and/or socket.

Happens to me often when I take old PC's apart for recycling and happend to me with my own 2600k years back.

Cautious !

What everyone said. But yes, there have been big changes to DCS in the last year so it will be more demanding.

My CPU is always above 90 Degree Celsius. The thermal throttling starts at 100 degree. 88 degree is ok if the ambient temperature is around 36 degrees.

Dust.

Paste.

Cooler.

A new cooler dropped my temps from 85* (way too high) to 65*, when at 4.4 OC.

It's now around 58* @ 3.8.
