AvgWhiteGuy Posted January 28, 2020 Posted January 28, 2020 I've found over time that DCS initial loading time and mission loading times have increased, as example Bankler's Case I Recovery Trainer take about 35 seconds from the Mission Editor. Other missions seem to take an agonizing time as well. SO I'm wondering whether a total & complete removal of everything DCS and fresh install is appropriate, especially before adding my other purchased modules. Bare with me on the details below, just trying to head off questions about parameters of this decision. I've had DCS running on this machine for over 4 years (hardware specifics in signature) and haven't re-installed anything. Other than a couple Cleanups, I've just installed updates and new modules as I spend. I run the current openbeta 2.5.5.41962 with an assortment of purchased A/C including F/A-18, F-16, A-10C, UH-1Huey on all 4 maps. I also purchased, but have yet to install Combined Arms, Black Shark 2 & SU-33 (with SuperCarrier when she docks). The only Mods I currently through thru JSGME is VAC ATC Menu Mod (by whartsell), unfortunately for me I'm too slow to take advantage of the awesome Mods created by the community. So sitting in Shanghai with time on my hands during this Chinese NewYear, and avoiding contact with anyone that might be eating bats or coughing....would a complete removal and re-install be an appropriate course of action? If so could you comment and direct me to the best resource available to get this done right the first time. Is there an updated 'bible' of fresh installation I should be reading? And if I was to do this would it be best to load the entire DCS library on a separate SSD as opposed to volume C:? What size would be necessary, would a 100GB be enough? I appreciate comments, questions, suggestions, references...anything to make this as emotionally peaceful as possible. Cheers & Thanks...wish you all a happy and prosperous New Year....now get out there and blow some shit up!!!!! draconus Posted January 28, 2020 Posted January 28, 2020 Your loading time sounds normal for SATA SSD. If there are no errors there is no need to do anything. Next step is only M.2/NVME drive on new motherboard or pciex card. DCS with 4 maps and bunch of modules is around 200GB. QuiGon Posted January 28, 2020 Posted January 28, 2020 I agree with draconus. As long as there are no error there is not really any need to reinstall DCS. Your loading times are absolutly fine. My current DCS installation is running for 5+ years now without any reinstallation (yes, my current installation started before 2.5 as 1.2 or 1.5 ;)). Intel i7-12700K @ 8x5GHz+4x3.8GHz + 32 GB DDR5 RAM + Nvidia Geforce RTX 2080 (8 GB VRAM) + M.2 SSD + Windows 10 64Bit DCS Panavia Tornado (IDS) really needs to be a thing!

SSD is very cheap now, bought a 2TB for around 125.00 usd, excellent results in not only load time but gameplay smoothness as well, absolutely no stuttering/freeze-ups. Another thing that helped me a lot was adding this line to the autoexec.cfg located: G:\Users\user name\Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\Config no_device_hotplug = true
