Hello all,

I've recently started learning the F14 properly and am working my way through the single player content. I was curious about what is a fun use of the F14 online? For example can I use it effectively as a solo player on the PVE server? What about PVP?

Thanks :)

Problem is I don't know anyone that does this - I've been trying to get my friends on but they're not interested. They'd rather play Escape from Tarkov - even asked my girlfriend who apparently thinks Stardew Valley is more interesting than learning to operate an F14's radar. I'm not sure what's wrong with them all.

Hah, people can be weird indeed! :D

Maybe try giving her the front seat and doing the radar work yourself ;)

The back seat is where the real men work ;)

I'm faced with the same predicament. Most people are simply never going to be interested in devoting large amounts of their time to learning something as complex as DCS, to say nothing of the money they'll need to spend to get started.

If you want a human RIO, then you're pretty much stuck with either allowing a random stranger in the back seat, or trying to join an existing group of people who play together.

I have fun PvP in the tomcat in the Just Dogfight server. The F14 is quite potent in the A to A role and close in, jester is really only helpful with call outs, which IMO are a huge advantage. Prevents people sneaking up on your backside!

PVP in air to air is fo e online. jester does ok. You aren't missing many feature.with a human RIO. For air to ground you really want a ha. RIO right now for the LANTIRN pod operation.

To find a human RIO you can allow a.random player into your plane and risk being ejected at a bad time, or find a group of new friends to play with is DCS online. There are many to choose from and at least 1 will probably fit your schedule and personality. I believe there is a list of squadrons in the squadron recruiting forum to help you start looking.

What Biggs said. ACM-BFM-WVR is really easy (if you've mastered the stick and the rudder) and Jester is of great help.

BVR on the other hand is a bit wonky and even at best of times, against skilled hostiles, very hard to pull. Best wait a bit for TWS AUTO to come along. We'll see how it's like then. For now, if you really want to go for it, play the co-altitude game.
