CliftMaples Posted February 17, 2020 Posted February 17, 2020 Apologies in advance if this is the wrong place for this question, I have several aircraft one of which is the F-14. I'm not a hardcore simmer and only use a joystick PXN-2113 to play DCS, but it does (or did have force feedback/vibration until this last update) which really adds to the experience. I hope this get fixed in the future for this joystick model. Long question short, why do other aircraft not include this feature? Or maybe some do and I'm just not aware of it.
Weta43 Posted February 17, 2020 Posted February 17, 2020 There seems to have been a change in attitude towards FFB a couple of years ago at E.D. Planes were provided with shake for feedback on the state of the aircraft in the air, but someone seems to have decided this is 'not realistic' and that it shouldn't be implemented/supported as they go forward. Seems to me the entire aircraft shakes, the stick is connected to the aircraft - the stick shakes... Perhaps it's too much development/support time for a very small % of users ? Cheers.
Buzzles Posted February 18, 2020 Posted February 18, 2020 (edited) No-one really makes FFB sticks currently due to patent issues pushing the cost up to the level its not profitable. Ergo, very few people have one as they're getting quite rare. That said, I think most of the patents have actually just expired as of yesterday: (1 - MS), (2 - Immersion), (3 - Immersion). So we might start seeing them come to market. (for history, Immersion own most of the patents, MS got sued but settled and bought a stake in Immersion many years ago, granting them some of the patents) Flip side, with non-ffb hotas units already being easily $200+, and higher quality one being ~$400-500, it might not be profitable for manufacturers due to the small market demand, so we definitely won't see a glut of them.
