Not all TACAN is azimuth and range. Can you check that tanker using a different module (F-5, A-10)?

I thought the X band gave azimuth and range, while the Y band does not.

This was in a F-18 thread, about TACAN channels interfering with the datalink and thus being unusable, IIRC. I don't know if it's modeled, but it might worth taking into account. d10718f8ce30641b21192436864221ee.jpg

No, both work. X, Y, X A/A, and Y A/A should really be thought of as four separate bands as they have important differences. I just threw up a default KC-135 which defaults to 1X and an air start F-16 and I got azimuth and range to tanker. Can you share the mission file or track of the issue?

It's the Dawn Strike mission that comes with the viper, the first one in the list.

Make sure you press the M button under the HSI to change to the Tacan otherwise it will point in the wrong direction

Yep I cycled through multiple times to make sure, check the screenshots I put up top it's in TCN.

Harker, do you have a link to the original post or can we verify the source of this...I use it in mission building and it makes logical sense to me, but I'd like to know where it came from and if it is valid or speculation. Thanks!

I'm running the Dawn Strike Mission included with the F-16. Shell is Channel 1X. I am tuned, in AA T/R, HSI is in TCN mode. I can hear the morse code. The needle is simply not pointing at the tanker. I've tried with stored heading alignment and Normal.

I use the frequencies in that F/A-18C TACAN Degraded and Unavailable channel list and they all work fine. Try starting at 37X for A/A Stations.

That TACAN channel table was built off of the information Wags posted here: https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=3821502&postcount=139

The "Unavailable" range is more of a misnomer; it's the filter range used on the upper antenna for Datalink. So you can definitely set A/A TACAN inside that range, and it would probably still work, but you'll have interference on the SA page where your PPLIs will be blipping in and out or straight up not being there. Now how it's simulated on the F-16, I have no idea if it's modeled the same way as it is on the Hornet.

This is what I ended up with as an answer last time I tried to figure this out. Apparently not all tankers give a heading through TACAN.

I think it's a bug...to resolve this I had to press the sequence button and cycle through the different tacan modes and then it worked...as a side note the hsi did point to correct heading and gave correct range in Nav mode...go figure..but when switching to TAC mode it was totally off in heading and range, until I cycled the modes in the ufc with seq. dobber right

The Dawn Raider Mission has 2 Tankers in it, both having TCN Channel 1 assigned. This might cause the problems.
