GPU for VR

Recommended Posts

Is a GTX 1070 ti good enough to run DCS at fairly high detail and at a decent FPS? I run an OC Ryzen 7 1700X and 16 GB of OC RAM on an x370 motherboard.

Thanks!

No.

But you can try with lower detail to maintain half de refresh rate of the HMD.

Win11 Pro 64-bit, Ryzen 5800X3D, Corsair H115i, Gigabyte X570S UD, EVGA 3080Ti XC3 Ultra 12GB, 64 GB DDR4 G.Skill 3600. Monitors: LG 27GL850-B27 2560x1440 + Samsung SyncMaster 2443 1920x1200, HOTAS: Warthog with Virpil WarBRD base, MFG Crosswind combat pedals, TrackIR4, Rift-S.

Personal Wish List: A6 Intruder, Vietnam theater, decent ATC module, better VR performance!

I consider the 1070 to be the absolute minimum required for VR in DCS . Note my signature . I would advise getting a Rift S if (your IPD allows) because the experience is incredible , even with a 1070ti . But it will leave you wanting a better gpu for the longer term . Higher res headsets will prolly require a better gpu at the outset .

Would a 1080 do it? It’s my understanding that a properly overclocked 1070 ti will have almost identical performance to a non OC gtx 1080. I know the 1080 does have a ti model but it seems pretty rare.

Let's put this in context .

1: Do you have a 1070ti now ?

2: what is your budget ?

3: what headset do you wish to drive ?

In all honesty from what i have seen a 1080ti is the minimum but ideally you will need the RTX2080 range if you want to maintain some eye candy and get the true VR experience.

32GB ram if your multiplayer.

i9 is currently a waste with DCS, the i7 for the price point is much better re 9700k.

Expensive yes - worth it? Absolutely if this is a main hobby.

Would recommend put more money into the GPU and go with a Rift S, for DCS its trouble free and looks great for the price point (no difference to vive pro despite the specs that i have seen trying both and using the rift s)

Here are the answer to those questions:

1: No, currently I have a GTX 1050ti

2: I would like to stay around $200, so I’ve been looking at buying a pre-owned card off eBay. iRacing is the primary program I run, but I would like to get a little deeper into this using a higher performance card.

3: I am currently driving an Oculus Rift CV1.

So, needless to say anything will be an improvement over the current setup. I just want to get something that will perform well for the longest amount of time possible. I know the RTX is the current model, so I would already be a generation behind, but I’m trying to get the most bang for my buck, possible.

Any opinions on an AMD GPU? It looks like the RX 5700 series or VEGA 64 are the best balance between performance and cost on the secondary market.

Thanks!

Der Hirte can probably give you a good answer re the 5700 series . He is running one . You might try a pm .

No need, I just saw this^^

5700 will run a CV1, it's just borderline for anything higher than the CV1 ... Pimax, Reverb or Index for example.

With an 5700XT you can even run a HP Reverb in VR, which is what I have. It's like a 1080Ti, 2070 Super or 2080 Founders Edition (Nvidia card). Better take it slowly and get some more money and buy something better than rushing and regretting. Getting something good will last you.
