I have a question regarding the VirPil WarBRD base.

My TM Cougar gimbal just snapped in half.

From a previous post I discovered the VirPil flight systems. Then I saw the WarBRD base replacement that says I can take my TM Cougar handle form its original base to the WarBRD base.

But this being $185 U.S. I'm wondering which is better.

For an additional $200 I can buy the entire TM Warthog setup. But I would still suffer the same TM issues that everybody else does.

I really like my TM Cougar controls with the throttle system.

And I already have the TM Elite Rudder pedals that still work perfectly. These things are solid.

You could drop it from a building and it wouldn't hurt it.

Can I put my Cougar stick on the VirPil WarBRD base and have a more reliable system than the TM Warthog?

Also my throttle and elite rudder pedals both have to hook into the back of the original Cougar joystick base. What happens with them?

You can not connect them to the VPC base. For the throttle you can use a Tusba adapter:

I don’t know what can be done about the rudders, sorry. I hope you can find a used gimbal to use as spare.

Do these adapters plug straight into any USB port on the computer?

If so do they make one for the Elite Rudder pedals?

Update:

Yes they do.

You can put your Cougar stick grip on the WarBRD base and keep the Cougar base with throttle and rudders plugged in as well and all of them will work, no need for buying the TUSBA/RUSBA adapters IMHO (apart from the slight inconvenience of having to keep the empty Cougar base somewhere nearby).

Now, WarBRD base can also be set up in drivers to emulate the TM Warthog stick device ID so you could even still use TM Target software to program your HOTAS if needed.

Annoyed by my posts? Please consider donating. Once the target sum is reached, I'll be off to somewhere nice I promise not to post from. I'd buy that for a dollar!

That's a good idea but won't this cause a controller conflict when loading up games?

When I have to set up which controller I want to use in the game won't I have to choose one or the other?

So after doing some research (Not to mention currency converting) to rebuild my old TM Cougar stick into something better would cost approximately:

$187 for VirPil WarBRD base (Put TM Cougar stick on this)

$70 +- for FSSB RUSBA adapter for rudder pedals.

$80 +- for FSSB TUSBA adapter for the Cougar throttle system

for a grand total of around $337.

Slightly less the going cost for the TM Warthog at amazon for $412 with prime free shipping.

Only with very old games that don't support more than one controller. Most flight Sims have supported multiple controllers for quite a few years now. Even the warthog or X55,x56 are now two separate controllers. Even if the Warthog can be joined virtually into a single one.

But you don't chose anymore which controller to use, you assign DX inputs to your various sim functions.

You won't be able to connect your rudder and throttle to the Warthog anyway.

Just stick the Cougar base somewhere next to your PC and you're good, I've been doing that for a few years.

Hardware: VPForce Rhino, FSSB R3 Ultra, Virpil WarBRD, Hotas Warthog, Winwing F15EX, Slaw Rudder, GVL224 Trio Throttle, Thrustmaster MFDs, Saitek Trim wheel, Trackir 5, Quest Pro

Wow that could work.

I'm getting ready to build a desk where all my flight controls except the keyboard are mounted onto panels that can lower and slide back inside the desk on drawer slides. It will have a couple of doors that will cover the front so it can't be seen when not in use.

My wife's only concession to getting back into this since I moved my office from the back room to the front of the house.

I can mount the unused cougar base to the underside of the desk somewhere that it can't be seen or in the way.

Got the idea from a guy that built a full blown A10 simulator that folded up into what looked like a old fashioned chest.

Lived in a small apartment.

Just take the electronics out of the Cougar base and put them in the throttle if it will fit or into a small box you can mount somewhere convenient.

As the others have said its no problem at all having more than one controller connected. I am using a warbrd base with an X56 throttle while my Virpil CM2 thottle is in the mail.

i9 10900X & 5700XT

VPC WarBRD, TM F18C, VPC Alpha, VPC T50CM2 Throttle, TM TFRP Pedals, Oculus Rift S

If you REALLY wanna go nuts you could even run wires out of the cougar electronics and have yourself 2 Potentiometer axis and 3 shift registers worth of buttons for a button box or whatever you like.

Pretty sure you can calculate shipping on their site but a couple months ago it was 42 euro to the US for a warbrd base.

I can but it's all in EUROS. I was looking for the US Dollar cost.

Stupid question time:

I haven't seen anything in all of the literature or vids on the Virpil WarBRD base where it shows it coming with a USB cord already connected.

Like to make sure with these custom jobs.

From what I'm understanding the only thing I have to do is put my Cougar joystick on it. It will come with a USB cord attached?

Updated:

Nevermind. Just saw a Youtube video showing replacing spring assembly and saw USB cord attached.

Already purchased.

Came out to exactly $243.11.

I would rather pay that for something solid and long lasting than than twice that for a set of controllers (TM Warthog) that I had to worry was going to break on me sooner or later.

Damn sure hope it's worth it.

Would like to add additional high level controllers to go along with it.

WOW!!!

Ordered it yesterday (Monday).

It will be here this Friday by FedEx.

I've been using a Rockfire USB adapter with a set of Thrustmaster Elite pedals alongside a Warthog for ages. The Elites are still going strong. I bought them new with a Cougar sometime in the early 2000s or so. They've outlasted the Cougar, which I'm attempting to revive, and may outlast the Warthog. The pin cable from the pedals plugs into the adapter, and the adapter plugs into a USB port.

I don't know how Thrustmaster built the Elite Rudder Pedals but they sure built them to last.

I've had mine thru 3 different sets of TM controllers since late 90's early 2000's and they are still going strong.

Think I will invest into the Rockfire USB adapter and keep them for another decade..lol.
