speed-of-heat Posted March 17, 2020 Posted March 17, 2020 (edited) Hi All, just saw this: Windows Mixed Reality for SteamVR Beta Updated Windows Mixed Reality for SteamVR has been updated to version 1.1.186. This build contains the following changes: Fixed an issue with skeletal input not being available for custom input bindings. Added a whitelist to allow specific titles to always respect the SteamVR motion smoothing settings, regardless of what motion reprojection mode is specified in default.vrsettings. Updated the motion reprojection indicator to always show when enabled, regardless of current reprojection mode (previously, the indicator only showed when reprojection mode was set to auto). Updated default.vrsettings to explicitly set the motion reprojection mode to disabled by default. Updated how the motion reprojection setting is handled (see below). Motion Reprojection Setting Changes This beta makes changes to how motion reprojection settings can be managed. Like before, the default.vrsettings file can be modified to specify the reprojection mode to use for all titles. As a reminder, the possible values are: disabled - motion reprojection is never applied. auto - motion reprojection is applied if the running title cannot maintain native framerate. motionvector - motion reprojection is always applied. Alternatively, if you're using Windows Mixed Reality for SteamVR in conjunction with the latest SteamVR release, you can now use SteamVR to manage motion reprojection settings on a per-application basis. To enable this functionality: Ensure you're running a supported version of SteamVR (1.10.28 or greater). Remove the "motionReprojectionMode" line from default.vrsettings. In the SteamVR settings, select Video > Per Application Video Settings. Select the title you're interested in, and change the motion smoothing option. Motion Smoothing Setting Use Global Setting - no application specific override. The global default mode is auto. Enabled - motion reprojection runs in auto mode, applying reprojection if the application cannot maintain native framerate. Disabled - motion reprojection is never applied for the application. Force Always-on - application runs at half-framerate with reprojection. https://steamcommunity.com/games/719950/announcements/detail/3851080472164545100 ETA: Added Steam link in full screen mode i'm getting way more FPS on the same settings on 2.5.5 by using steam motion smoothing per application than i did with auto in default, vrsettings, but it is no where near as smooth very juddery Edited March 17, 2020 by speed-of-heat SYSTEM SPECS: Hardware AMD 9800X3D, 64Gb RAM, 4090 FE, Virpil T50CM3 Throttle, WinWIng Orion 2 & F-16EX + MFG Crosswinds V2, Varjo Aero SOFTWARE: Microsoft Windows 11, VoiceAttack & VAICOM PRO YOUTUBE CHANNEL: @speed-of-heat
BMGZ06 Posted March 17, 2020 Posted March 17, 2020 So you went in and deleted the motionreprojection line in the settings file and just did it in steamvr now? I have not tried this yet. speed-of-heat Posted March 17, 2020 Author Posted March 17, 2020 Yep ran about 60fps, but it was pretty juddery SYSTEM SPECS: Hardware AMD 9800X3D, 64Gb RAM, 4090 FE, Virpil T50CM3 Throttle, WinWIng Orion 2 & F-16EX + MFG Crosswinds V2, Varjo Aero SOFTWARE: Microsoft Windows 11, VoiceAttack & VAICOM PRO YOUTUBE CHANNEL: @speed-of-heat
DCSHeliflieger Posted March 18, 2020 Posted March 18, 2020 Hi All, just saw this: Thanks for the tip. With these notes I have now "readjusted" my settings for the Odyssey plus with RTX 2080Ti. Now have an even clearer texture and yet a smooth flight to Nevada and Dubai with these settings (pictures). The Nvidia setting options with regard to sharpness and coloring here enable a further depth of field of the landscape.
Baldrick33 Posted March 18, 2020 Posted March 18, 2020 I tried this. Commenting out the line in the settings file and enabling it per application (I had to run DCS for it to be an option) it worked just as I would have expected as if having it set to auto in the WMR settings file, i.e. ran at 45fps Good to have it as an option in SteamVR per application but I don't think it actually changes anything once running? speed-of-heat Posted March 18, 2020 Author Posted March 18, 2020 it seems to make very little practical difference, which you use. In practice i would always recommend that the majority of humans use the UI rather than a text editor to make changes ... BMGZ06 Posted March 18, 2020 Posted March 18, 2020 So I think i did this right but I deleted the entire line in the settings file and these are my steam settings. I do not see anything locked at 45fps but rather the FPS fluctuates with the settings in the pictures. fps is 40-73fpsin free flight in the hornet on caucasus System Specs: 13900K, Strix Z790 Gaming E, MSI 4090 Sprim Liquid X OC'd, 64gb Gskill Trident Z DDR5, Samsung 980 PRO M.2 SSD,. speed-of-heat Posted March 18, 2020 Author Posted March 18, 2020 You have to comment out motion reprojection before anything can be overridden by steam SYSTEM SPECS: Hardware AMD 9800X3D, 64Gb RAM, 4090 FE, Virpil T50CM3 Throttle, WinWIng Orion 2 & F-16EX + MFG Crosswinds V2, Varjo Aero SOFTWARE: Microsoft Windows 11, VoiceAttack & VAICOM PRO YOUTUBE CHANNEL: @speed-of-heat
BMGZ06 Posted March 18, 2020 Posted March 18, 2020 You have to comment out motion reprojection before anything can be overridden by steam no idea what that means. Does that mean putting the "//" back in and setting it to auto like it is at default? System Specs: 13900K, Strix Z790 Gaming E, MSI 4090 Sprim Liquid X OC'd, 64gb Gskill Trident Z DDR5, Samsung 980 PRO M.2 SSD,. speed-of-heat Posted March 18, 2020 Author Posted March 18, 2020 Putting the // comments out the line so yes. It doesn't make it auto, but that doesn't matter SYSTEM SPECS: Hardware AMD 9800X3D, 64Gb RAM, 4090 FE, Virpil T50CM3 Throttle, WinWIng Orion 2 & F-16EX + MFG Crosswinds V2, Varjo Aero SOFTWARE: Microsoft Windows 11, VoiceAttack & VAICOM PRO YOUTUBE CHANNEL: @speed-of-heat
BMGZ06 Posted March 18, 2020 Posted March 18, 2020 Putting the // comments out the line so yes. It doesn't make it auto, but that doesn't matter ok got it. I am new to all this. Thank you Sir! BMGZ06 Posted March 18, 2020 Posted March 18, 2020 Still really juddery for me even with higher FPS. Not sure what I am missing. I put back the // in the settings file and set the steamvr to motion smoothing enable and legacy reprojection on. I did restart steamvr as well System Specs: 13900K, Strix Z790 Gaming E, MSI 4090 Sprim Liquid X OC'd, 64gb Gskill Trident Z DDR5, Samsung 980 PRO M.2 SSD,. speed-of-heat Posted March 18, 2020 Author Posted March 18, 2020 You have to restart windows mixed reality portal, and you have to save the file... BMGZ06 Posted March 18, 2020 Posted March 18, 2020 You have to restart windows mixed reality portal, and you have to save the file... ya i saved the file and restarted but still runs at up to 70+ fps and not smooth at all. Going back to old method it runs smooth at 45fps. System Specs: 13900K, Strix Z790 Gaming E, MSI 4090 Sprim Liquid X OC'd, 64gb Gskill Trident Z DDR5, Samsung 980 PRO M.2 SSD,.
