Ashilta Posted March 23, 2020 Posted March 23, 2020 In 2.5.5, we had some intermittent datalink issues with the Viper but it seemed to work most of the time. Since the release of 2.5.6, the datalink seems to have degraded to such a state that it now doesn't work more often than it works. There are four categories of problem: Aircraft do not appear at all Aircraft appear but are incorrectly classed as hostile/friendly My own aircraft is reported as a separate contact, occasionally declared hostile The 'group' behaviour is defective, showing aircraft in other groups as in my group, or not showing my group as in my group I have a track confirming the first issue here: https://1drv.ms/u/s!AlT38BKo2JnThNRPPJgso6T4Ic7SFw?e=PzO8d6 - this track shows the 'aircraft do not appear at all' issue over any of the others. The server in question (the aerobatics server) was absolutely riddled with F-18s, many of which were airborne, but only three datalink returns were shown.
Ashilta Posted March 23, 2020 Author Posted March 23, 2020 I've taken the time to run through a video I recorded last night of a mission from within my wing. From it, I've taken some screenshots of the datalink behaviour I've identified. At no point in this mission did I, or anyone in the wing, change their Link16 settings. Whilst this isn't a track as such (and I can't produce the track of this mission because it relies on custom content), there's clearly an issue here that warrants further investigation. DarkStar79 Posted March 28, 2020 Posted March 28, 2020 Yea same problem here. I can loose all contacts sometimes and then 5 seconds later they appear. Something is wrong with the datalink!
RudeSeagull Posted March 28, 2020 Posted March 28, 2020 Yep, i just found out about this bug today after downing a "red" friendly. Hope it gets fixed soon, datalink is haywire, red targets will randomly turn green, and it even puts me as a contact on there and I am marked as red as well.
M0ltar Posted March 28, 2020 Posted March 28, 2020 (edited) [CHECKING] Viper datalink horrifically inconsistent They show red because there is a bug with donating contacts. If you lock anyone they are sent via link 16 to other aircraft as enemies even if you have transmit turned off regardless if they are known friendlies or enemies. When you see yourself as a hostile that is because someone is locking you in tws or rws and donating your own aircraft to yourself as a hostile. On top of that the transmit functions for link16 in the viper are broken. There is no way to turn them off. Even when you have the setting set to off on the HSD it still donates the contact to every other aircraft. Badlego Posted March 29, 2020 Posted March 29, 2020 The F16C has No symbols for unknown contacts currently. Therefore a yellow contact from the tws of a hornet is shown red for the Viper. Parts of the bugs described here are therefore more a misinterpretation of the current symbologies. Green: for Sure friendly. Red: can be anything! We have to wait for ed to implement the yellow symbols for the Viper. Until then we need Support by a GCI to correctly declare contacts, do IFF multiple Times, because that May also fail and Not give a respond....or combine Radar Info with RWR Symbols If possible and judge by yourself carefully...

TOViper Posted April 8, 2020 Posted April 8, 2020 I can confirm problems with the DATALINK. Sometimes, it simply goes away for a while, and then comes back. Yesterday, during a 6 hours mission, I never had DATALINK targets, but my mate in the F-18 had them. Of course the MIDS-LVT switch was set to ON ... :smilewink: Flew on a dedicated server as a client in OB 2.5.6.45915. Sharpe_95 Posted April 8, 2020 Posted April 8, 2020 I have seen the same issue. I can't replicate it or find a reason for it though. Good luck getting to the bottom of this one dev team :-S
