If this makes it into this week's patch, the timing will be perfect. I've been itching to get back into the mig-21 after picking up a new GPU for VR use. Many thanks to the team for their continued efforts!

I hope so. We did not have any information this time as to when ED repository locks for this update so we don't know whether it will be in or not.

Hiromachi, will there be any other fixes/updates along with radar fix? Could you guys update the changelog topic with it? Thx

Not that I'm aware of. And changelog will be updated when we will know more details about the patch.

So this is just a brief statement but I wanted to say that today we have committed a long awaited radar fix. This is both to cure drastic framerate drops and loss of contact at lower altitudes.

This fix was in testing for the past week and based on the tests conducted internally there seems to be no performance degradation with radar turned on. I did a few stress tests and placed for example 15 planes in front of me along with heavy clouds and still FPS was up there. Similarly in heavy jamming situation or flying in Caucasus valleys.

However keep in mind that testing by its nature was limited to a few people so something might need tweaking . Furthermore, this fix is a very significant code rework for the radar and while its functionality is checked, again, its possible that smaller issues might be revealed.

So right now this is in ED hands and hopefully it will make it to the patch before Christmas.

Excellent news, but I'm still curious:

What compromises had to be made as you've alluded to those in previous posts?

It will be less accurate in terms of displayed ground clutter or clouds. For example there may be instances of low flight where radar will indicate target clear and you will struggle to lock since its actually flying in clutter area. So a couple attempts to lock will be needed or something. I mean its still a fairly primitive and limited radar so everything is within historical boundaries.

I dunno. I'm not sure you're really going to notice difference. It projection, not actually tested difference.

Yeah, we could not confirm if its in the patch or not so I hope thats it. Thats what causing delay 🙂

Than we can try asking ED for a hotfix. No worries, if its not there we will keep trying.

...That's not really how this works. Many bugs enter the game specifically because something that a module relies on is changed either within the core game code, or from an external source (e.g. how a particular display driver handles something). "Don't touch it again" is a good way to ensure something breaks again in the future, and why all modules require periodic adjustments and fixes. Nobody is going out and breaking the radar just for funsies, the radar specifically broke because something changed in the way a particular display driver interacted with DCS.

Word!

In my case , when this Sapphire gadget is used with clouds, FPS drops down to low double or high single digit performance. Couple of times, pressing Weather Interferes filter, FPS goes up a bit, not always. With gadget off or in STBY, Mig-21Bis is has three digit FPS performance.

DCS certainly provides quite the developmental gauntlet as ED has a habit of breaking code well enough on their own, leaving third parties to try and sort out a fix themselves. It's extremely irresponsible to not go back and work on something. Infact, you're just inviting further issues in this kind of developmental ecosystem.
