emenance Posted January 21, 2008 Posted January 21, 2008 Whats the latest best of the best controls we need for Lock on and BS. I think my x52 died again. Third stick down the drain. I want something differnet. I mean go look at thier tech forum. Its a total fiasco going on there. Suggestions and opinions? Threads we should review? TIA Asus P8Z68-V GEN3/ 2500k 4.4ghz / Corsair 64gb SSD Cache / Corsair 8g 1600 ddr3 / 2 x 320gb RE3 Raid 0 /Corsair 950w/ Zotac 560TI AMP 1gb / Zalman GS1200 case /G940/
Aeroscout Posted January 21, 2008 Posted January 21, 2008 CH is better quality. I would do that if you don't mind the extra $$$ DCS Wishlist: 1) FIX THE DAMN RIVERS!!! 2) Spherical or cylindrical panorama view projection. 3) Enhanced input options (action upon button release, etc). 4) Aircraft flight parameter dump upon exit (stick posn, attitude, rates, accel, control volume, control-surface positions, SAS bias, etc). 5) ADS-33 maneuver courses as static objects. 6) Exposed API or exports of trim position and stick force for custom controllers. 7) Select auto multiple audio devices
RedTiger Posted January 21, 2008 Posted January 21, 2008 I second the CH suggestion. I just got a Fighterstick and a Pro Throttle -- very, very nice and these things just ooze quality. CH also produces joysticks and controllers for industrial and medical machines, which I always thought was a plus. CH has its own community and excellent support. If you interested, this place has some good deals: http://www.provantage.com/ch~110CHPU.htm You can get a Fighterstick and Pro Throttle for $200 as opposed to the full retail of $300 for both. A couple thing I'd warn you about if you're used to the x52: the Fighterstick has 2 gimbals, one side to side and one backwards and forwards. This has quite a bit different feel from the single gimbal on the x52 with its fully circular motion and will take a few hours to get used to. Also, its based on the F-16 stick and thus has the ergonomics of the F-16 stick. If the top of the stick is above elbow level, you'll have a hard time reaching the trim hat and pickle button. The transition and rearrangement is worth it though.
S77th-konkussion Posted January 21, 2008 Posted January 21, 2008 Yep. CH is great stuff. CH manager is really difficult to use at first. It gets better with use & practice- but is far from intuitive. [sIGPIC]http://forums.eagle.ru/attachment.php?attachmentid=43337&d=1287169113[/sIGPIC]
Aeroscout Posted January 21, 2008 Posted January 21, 2008 If your stick is broken and not the throttle, afaik you can reuse it with the Fighterstick, so you wouldn't need to buy a new throttle. That's what I'm planning to do once my X52 stick breaks. That's exactly what I'm waiting for too! I like the X52, but it seriously feels like it will brake if I yank on it too hard. emenance Posted January 22, 2008 Author Posted January 22, 2008 Thank you very to all. here is something wierd to think about I am thinking if i trash the freaking out stick, and go with a new thottle and stick I could dedicate my old x52 throttle to a collective for BS. Could it be possible to roll with TWO THROTTLES AND ONE STICK. Sounds like I could do this going the CH route......what about the cougar route? Keep in mind I want the option to jump into Flaming Cliffs or Black Shark at anytime I want. Most modern sims will recognize multiple devices and let you map different controls the the various axes and rotators. CH's software will let you set up to 16 CH devices as ONE device if needed. I personally think its a dead product being supported mainly by an enthusiast community and that it is best bought only if you're going to mod it. Quality can be suspect, and a full mod job can cost several times as much as the original stick.
emenance Posted January 24, 2008 Author Posted January 24, 2008 Well for 200 bucks I can go the cougar route......plus there is a detailed profile and instuctions all laid out by someone at cougarworld.com . I know something new will be worth it. For some reason.....why do I want a cougar???Better comunity support? I dont know why? illuzian Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 Is a cougar really worth it? I've been researching CH vs Cougar as of late and although I've had no issues with my X52 I really dont know whether to go for the Cougar or the CH.... so many decisions to make aaaah DCS Dream Wishlist: 1. I've been researching CH vs Cougar as of late and although I've had no issues with my X52 I really dont know whether to go for the Cougar or the CH.... so many decisions to make aaaah If you don't have the cash or the means to mod it then think about this, cheap, die cast metal vs. high impact plastic that CH uses for their HOTAS. Here is some dude's cougar after only 200 hours. But until CH do something about that fugly throttle and the not so ergonomic stick, there will always be thread like this one. It's only natural that people choose looks over reliability, and I'm one of those people. ED have been taking my money since 1995. :P
