the_mirage Posted May 15, 2020 Posted May 15, 2020 Hello, I recently installed DCS. At first I thought my PC was able to run the game quite well. This is my setup: I could run the game in free flight very will with a lot of sliders en screen resolution maxed out. (about 40pfs) But when I wanted to start a campaign or mission where there were a lot more of AI elements, the game became unplayable for me: framerates about 10 fps...:( , even when I put every single slider to the lowest position and lowest screen resolution. When I check my system useage ingame, it appears to me that it ain't a question of hardware shortcomming: I still have reserves, although my fps in this picture was about 10: I tried everything; I deleted the shader folders, reinstalled both DCS World and DCS Open Beta, reinstalled video drivers, I even reinstalled Windows... No difference... I really don't understand this, It looks to me this must be really some sort of bug as my medium setup must definitely be able to play DCS well on lowest settings... Anyone has a clue?
Aluminum Donkey Posted May 15, 2020 Posted May 15, 2020 Wow, this kind of thing can really stump a guy. Have you tried disabling Hyperthreading in BIOS? I've heard that HT can be a pain in the posterior in gaming. I don't have it myself (i5-6600K here) but have run across threads saying it causes problems. Also, check your graphics card clock speed and possibly CPU speed under load, make sure they're running at the proper clock speeds. Your system should be able to run DCS very well at low-medium settings. the_mirage Posted May 18, 2020 Author Posted May 18, 2020 Thanks, I disabled hyperthreading, this didn't make any difference... Graphics card and clock speed should be checked in BIOS or where do I have to do this?
Lange_666 Posted May 18, 2020 Posted May 18, 2020 I see you are playing in 3840x2160 resolution. That's 4K. Means your setup has to work roughly 4 times as hard as it would for a 1920x1080 screen. That's problem number one. Win11 Pro 64-bit, Ryzen 5800X3D, Corsair H115i, Gigabyte X570S UD, EVGA 3080Ti XC3 Ultra 12GB, 64 GB DDR4 G.Skill 3600. Personal Wish List: A6 Intruder, Vietnam theater, decent ATC module, better VR performance!

Even when I put every slider on lowest and choose 1280x720, no AA,...I barely get 15fps on auto generated missions with medium populated AI... My pc is a clean Windows and drivers install with only DCS and P3d installed on SSD. According task manager, I have still a lot reserves on memory, CPU and GPU when playing DCS...but nevertheless, the game is a slideshow. I'm hopeless. :joystick::helpsmilie:
RealDCSpilot Posted May 20, 2020 Posted May 20, 2020 First make sure Windows isn't running in any energy saving modes, then try this: https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=3411425&postcount=1 i9 13900K @5.5GHz, Z790 Gigabyte Aorus Master, RTX4090 Waterforce, 64 GB DDR5 @5600, PSVR2, Pico 4 Ultra, HOTAS & Rudder: all Virpil with Rhino FFB base made by VPforce, DCS: all modules
Zeagle Posted May 20, 2020 Posted May 20, 2020 (edited) You have a bottleneck with the motherboard. The processor would probably be OK for medium settings as would the graphics card. My suggestion is to get a modern motherboard. Then upgrade components as your budget allows. Note: if you plan on upgrading, consider that AMD processors have been outperforming Intel for gaming lately. You might want to check some youtube comparisons for more information. As for 4k, your processor, memory and GPU are not up to that task. They are suited for at best 1080P on the current build. As for stuttering in DCS, get rid of the hard drive and slow SATA SSD's. NvMe is the way to go. Much faster with no stutters. Edited May 20, 2020 by Zeagle
corn322 Posted May 21, 2020 Posted May 21, 2020 Does this mean that your CPU is running at only 920MHz with DCS running?
the_mirage Posted May 22, 2020 Author Posted May 22, 2020 All right folks, I followed the link that Alec Delorean posted, and installed the program Bitsum. After assigning DCS to high priority as shown in the "tutorial", my problem is solved. I can run DCS now without stuttering (30-40 FPS, enough for me...) in 4k with sliders Medium/High and medium dense populated missions :D:D:smartass: I'm verry happy now :pilotfly:
