Let me get this straight. The Hornet gets out of control when rolled multiple times? WTF! That's insane...

I think I read something similar in MiG-29G manual. Mirage 2000 is also restricted to 2 successive rolls.

But in the Hornet video he was rolling at 0G, so pushing on the stick.

The AI fly like this almost all the time when trying to maintain formation. The AI in my flight almost always are flying with at least 5 degree AOA higher than me to maintain position regardless of the speed I fly at. Its funny to see a plane in formation at 450 kts with 8 degree AOA. Possibly also why they burn fuel at so much a higher rate.

I don't think any AI aircraft uses the player flight model...they have a rough approximation of it...

Some things need to be understood in this video. One, this was probably during the early development of the Hornet, so we don't know if any corrective changes were made to the design, or flight control system. Two, this roll was made unloaded (zero G).

Within the first few years (like 5-8 ) of the angels adopting the 18 I went to an airshow at Elmendorf AFB.

I saw one of the pilots "crawl" the aircraft down the flight line at SUPER low speed and SUPER high Alpha. Like 70 degrees. Like 30MPH it seemed like. I was quite young but I remember that like it was yesterday. Of course... I may have the numbers off... but it was WAY more impressive than what they do these days.

NMT 360 degrees is written in natops as a limitation, pilots are made very aware of the risks and consequences of exceeding this.
